Coin Mechs

I forgot to add that if you took a picture of the inside of the coin door on your Mortal Kombat and posted it to the forum I can tell you with 100% accuracy what the correct coin mech will be for that door.

Thats a coin controls door. I attached a picture of the three major varities of coin control mechs. The one that would be period correct would be the one on the right. The one that I have pictured is the Wells Gardner produced model however they are exactly the same as the one that would have shipped with your game.

operator chiming in here.

ALL games came/come with coin mechs unless we ask to have them removed.

MK's came with Coin-Co/Wells coin mechs which were plastic and metal.

Must have been distributor specific then. In Georgia, none of ours did. We didn't ask for them, nor did we request NOT to have them. :)

We always received mechs in new games. I KNOW they came from the factory with mechs. Because my warehouse was closer than either of the two game distributorships that I used (Struve in Salt Lake City) and Colorado Game Exchange in Denver). I would regularly have games drop shipped from Atari right from the factory to me. Never had those games go thru a distributors warehouse. It was much cheaper freight wise. Always had mechs in those games. Currently I can request the type of mech I want. Tokens or quarters on games. But games today still come with coin mechs.

They're all made in various coin sizes, and *if the cradle is removable* can be upgraded/downgraded.

Remove cradle, insert cradle for correct coin. Adjust width with a coin in against the magnet. Then, if the mech has one, adjust the bounce pin so that a proper coin bounces into the accept channel.

I've seen some that were completely changeable and adjustable, and then I've seen some - like in my PC10 - that are good for nothing but what they were made for.

Granted, I've only got early 80s games..... but all the mechs I've seen were either adjustable metal ones, or all plastic "quarters only".

That reminds me.... I need to do some adjusting on the ones I have, to make them work for my tokens.
