I've been running the vending machines (2 pop, 1 candy) where I work for a little over a year now, and have been able to overcome any problems I've encountered... until now.

In the candy machine, near as I can tell, the coin mech is a TRC-6000ish model. So I count the money every week, take it to the bank, etc. I deal primarily in quarters (pop .50, candy .75), counting and dealing with the dimes and nickels only when necessary. They are the bane of my existence. In an attempt to deal with the dimes and nickels as little as possible, I run the slots for each down to near-empty, and let any dimes and nickels used be routed there so I'm only dealing with quarters when I'm counting. Onto the problem...

The coin mech has stopped loading the dime and nickel tubes. They're near empty (but covering the sensors at the bottom of the tubes), but it won't send them into the tubes. Instead, it sends them to the coin box.

Granted, this is primarily an annoyance... but if I don't have to deal with them frequently, I don't want to. Anyone have any idea why the coin mech would do this? Better yet, any idea how to make it stop doing this?

Thanks!

Check the dip switch settings on the changer to see if the change tube inventory levels are set to "low". For what you want, the dip switch setting should be "high". Low and high refer to the level of the coins in the change tubes.

Thanks for the response!

I took the whole mech apart late last night (stayed 45 min after work putting it back together...) and it appeared that the dimes may be working but not the nickels. I'll do more thorough testing today when I return to work... was too tired last night and wanted to get home.

So it may be a moot point, but I forgot to note earlier, it works fine for the quarters, just not the nickels and dimes. I've checked the dip switches. They're off, off, on, off - US only, lots of quarters, allows dollar acceptance, and accepts dollar with quarters in .25 tube. I've found the manual online and researched it as thoroughly as I think I can, but nothing addresses this specific problem.

I'm guessing that since the quarter tube works fine, there must be a problem with the sensor at the top of the nickel and dime tubes - indicating full tubes to the mech. Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this?

Thanks!
