I'm hoping I'm just overlooking something obvious. For some reason, my Skill Crane stopped taking money yesterday and instead just makes a clicking noise. I don't know much about coin mechs other than what I've read on Bob Roberts' site and what I've worked with personally in the past, and this one looks different from what I'm used to.

And I guess technically, it's part of the coin door that's making the noise, not the actual coin mech :p Below is a picture and I've circled the part that's making the noise. Basically it just snaps back and forth repeatedly every 2 seconds or so.

It seems that at the same time it 'clicks,' that the credit/plays display changes as well. Every so often it'll stop, which is when the credit/play display resets to zero. Not too much longer and it'll start up again. While it's doing this, coins will fall into the return.

I'm assuming maybe it's a wiring issue, but from first look I don't see anything wrong. Anyone have any ideas?

Disconnecting the red and orange wires that are just below the circle 'fixes' it. Obviously, I now want to know what that thing is that they plug into and if I need it or not :p

Looks to be a lock-out coil. It causes the mech to reject coins when the machine is not powered. It is safe to disconnect and will not affect operation. Just take care to insulate the orange and red wires once they are disconnected so they do not cause a short.

Thanks for the info. I assumed it might be something related to rejecting coins. If that's all, then I see no reason to reconnect it since it's home use only anyway.

Thanks again!
