Ok I have a 2nd video poker machine that is working sort of. This one had credit and the hopper paid out when coins were added to it. Not I cannot coin up and the device behind the coin mech is buzzing. I am not sure what needs to be reset for this to stop. I was told it was not buzzing about a week before I bought it. I think it might have to do someting with the door being opened. I am stuck here. Any thoughts?

Yes, you need to scrap the machine and sell me the belly glass. :)
Just kidding, I've been on the hunt for that same exact glass for awhile now.

The buzzing is most likely the lockout coil trying to engage right behind the coin mech.
Buzzing should mean that it is getting power like it is suppose to only when the machine is on.
So I would check to make sure everything (the lockout parts) else is in place and moving freely.

I assume right now if you drop quarters into it they either jam or fall straight through ?
Does it coin up if you flick the coin mech switch ?

Mine was totally dead when I got it, it has since been converted to a PC touchscreen machine. So I can't help ya too much more with the Fortune One machine, which is what you have.

Yeah that is what I found too. Thanks for adding a picture of it. I can put coins in and they do go to the hopper. No it does not add credits. I am assuming there needs to be some kind of reset, which would then "open" the switch which stops the buzzing.

I am sure I am not describing this right in words. I guess the buzzing is engaging something and will not allow coin uo. But if I can disengage it I think it will coin up again. I just dont know which switch is open or closed or whatever.

No it does not add credits.

Even if you flick the coin switch by hand ?

If the buzzing is indeed that little coil, then that is normal. It should be energized when the game is turned on.
When power is turned off, so is the coil, which will "lockout" any coins from going into the hopper.

Open the door and drop a coin through and see if it actually triggering that coin switch.
(with power on)

Make sure the keyed switch on the side of the machine didn't get turned or something as well.
(I forget what position it should be in for gameplay)

Shoot me an e-mail and I'll try to send you a copy of the manual I have.
It is like an 8.7MB file, so not sure if it'll go through. It's a rough copy, but it's something.

I know what a coin switch is.

No it does not coin up manually or with the door closed. I know it is supposed to be energized, but I dont think it is supposed to "Buzz". This buzzing is very load. Seems to me it is more of a warning system.

Hey now, sometimes I point out the obvious just to avoid confusion. :)

Does anything come up on screen ?
Ya know, does it come up in game mode or an audit looking mode or anything like that ?
What about the switch on the side of the cabinet ? (the keyed switch)
Is the battery still good ?

Wish I had more specifics to look at, but I never messed with trying to get mine running.
So I'm kinda trying to go off of when I was working on some of the newer slots.

What about the switch on the side of the cabinet ? (the keyed switch) Switch is there, but key doesnt not turn. On the inside I see where it can touch one of 2 different contacts. Not sure if it is supposed to be touching on or the other or neither. My Bally slot machine, that key is to stop the bells from going off during a jackpot.
Is the battery still good ? Now that is a great question. I do not know because someone made their own battery mod and looks like they wrapped the whole thing in electrical tape. Really dont want to mess with it just yet, but if I have too I guess I will. I am still going under the assumtion it worked the week before I picked it up. No reason to doubt that.

I'll post pics tonight since there is no football tonight.

Yes the cards, credits and game over

So it is already showing credits ? ..... but won't start a game.
(or does it just show zero credits?)

Is the hopper full enough ?
I'd have to browse the manual to see if it has a limit switch of some kind that may not allow game play if it is too low or something.

As for the battery stuff, biggest thing is just to check voltage to make sure they aren't dead or dieing. (just something to check is all)
But if the game comes up like you described, then I would think they were fine.

Credits are zero at this point. Someone hit the cashout button and the game stalled until I threw in $43 in quarters.

Well it was more like $3 in quarters and kept tossing them in as the game spit them out. I can try filling the hopper full, I'll just steal the quarters from my slot. :p

Will check battery when I get home.

I am guessing at this point since the game paid out that it may need a reset switch switched? I'll poke around some more. I have gotten zapped once already poking around while plugged in.

Very possible...especially after a possible jackpot payout.
Check what the manual might say about that.
(because I can't recall what all the keyed switch does since it has two switches to activate)

Hehe, yeah.... mine had a bad ground on the door when I first got it and would would bite ya if you leaned up on it just right.

Ok I have a working game again, sort of.

I still get that damn buzzing, but it does coin up. I have disconnected one of the leads from behind the coin mech so I dont have to listen to it.

The other problem I get is a graphi issue on the cards. It is sometimes crystal clear and then other times it looks like what I show in this pic. The game still works, but hard to tell what card is what with the lines running through it. I notice if I wiggle the motherboard, it sometimes clears up momentarliy and other times it makes the screen roll up and down like the horizontal hold is off.

Tomorrow I will post a pic of the motherbaod. Maybe I am missing a chip or something may not look right to someone.

Is this game supposed to have sound as mine does not.

Well you can see part of the motherboard in my first post second picture.

Sometimes those lockout coils buzz when they start to get kinda worn out.
(think about it, they are energizes the entire time the machine is on)

So with the coil unplugged, can you still drop a coin in and coin it up ?
(I would think not)

Definitely check for flaky connections everywhere. (motherboard, monitor, etc)
But the first thing I noticed is it looks more like monitor issues rather than board issues.
The colors are just all wrong, you should have a blue background like in this pic I attached.

Yes, it should have sound.
Look up UNDER where the monitor sits, right above the hopper, and see if there is a board mounted up under there.
(mine is missing)

Ok I will leave it on for a while and see what happens. I'll have to muzzle the sound as it drives the wife nuts. :D

It will not coin up with it unplugged, but I can mannualy coin up.

I know the monitor needs a cap kit, but I think the wrong colors and graphic issues are chip related, but I could be wrong.

I'll look for a sound board, but I didnt see one before.

You have a nice crisp monitor there. Mine is incased in a metal box, with a slide in connector in the back. I wish I could use a monitor from a back-to-back machine, but that has a different connteor (Molex in the front)

Thanks again for all this help. will be cool when I get it looking as nice as yours. :)

I just remembered, that there is a volume knob on the front of the monitor. It does nothing when I turn it. I guess I will have to look there as well.

Hehe.... yeah, that isn't mine, just a pic I grabbed off the net.
Mine has a touchscreen LCD and a PC inside now. :)
But the original monitor that was in it is the same as yours.

Not sure if the volume nob on the monitor actually controlled the volume in these or not, it's possible though.
Look waaaay up under that monitor shelf, if there is ANY kind of board mounted up under there, that is the sound board.

Woo hoo success! :D :D :D

The buzzing has stopped. Now onto the next problem, screen/graphics issue. Look for it in a new post.

In case you are wondering someone had electrical tape on the lockout coil.
