Wondering if anyone else has had this problem...coin mechs that work fine when they're not inside the coin door, but once installed the coins drop into the return/reject chute instead of into the coin bucket. Lots of youtube vids about how coin mechs work (which is fascinating and all) but they don't address this specific issue.

Would appreciate any tips or links to threads, posts on this. Thank you!!

First of all, the machine they are installed in MUST be level, front-to-back as well as side-to-side.

Second, the coin acceptors must be clean.

Follow the manufacturer's adjustment instructions in the manuals which can be found here:

Lastly, does your coin door have "Lockout Coils" installed? If so, are those coils energized? If not, all coins will be rejected.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Okay, KenLayton. What's the dope on these lockout coils? I see 'em on there. Can I just remove them? How do I tell if they're energized, and how do you de-energize them? Appreciate your expertise on this.

I am sure Ken will chime in again but it might help to know what game you are working on as it sometimes depends on the game but short answer if the game is powered down or turned off the lockout coil has no power so if you insert a coin it will be routed to the coin return. With the game powered up and working properly the lockout coil will be energized and the coin will pass though into the coin bucket and credit up the game.

Thanks for the explanation. I've tried with power on and off and still have the problem of coins going right into the return chute. I'll try again with it powered on just to make sure. It's an Asteroids Deluxe. All else seems to be okay—machine is level, mechs etc. seem to be clean enough for things to work...

Okay, guys...it turns out that I am a doofus!! Just tried with power on and all quarters have dropped into the bucket. D'oh!! My head is hanging in shame. Can you believe I figured out how to turn the game on successfully??

When the back door is off or the coin door is open pull the interlock switch plunger out to lock it in the on position. Been their done that. The fact that you figured out means you have common sense which is often needed to fix these games. :D
