I'm pretty newbish when it comes to working on arcade games. I've got some limited experience with electronics repair (mostly turntables) and little grasp on how electronics work.

Anyway, this question is for a standard Nintendo Coin Door (DK/DK jr/Mario/Popeye).

The previous owner wired up a free-play button by removing the wiring from the left coin mech and wiring to the button (that is located directly above the coin plate). The left coin mech, therefore, is inoperable.

What I'd like to do, is have both coin mechs and the free-play button operable.

What I was thinking about doing was to make a homemade Y connector and split the left coin-mech wire to both the mech and the button. Will this work?

If not, is there another way to work it?

That should work. I just did the same thing on my Jungle King the other night, except I used the 2-player start button instead. Some people prefer to use the coin return button.

I just used a lead with alligator clips on both ends. Clamped one end to the leaf switch on the 2-player start button and the other end to the coin mech wire. Works great. You hit the 2-player start button once and it registers a credit. Hit 1-player start to begin a one player game or hit the 2-player start button again to add a 2nd credit. Hit 2-player start a 3rd time to begin a two player game.

You can make a Y-connector if you want but there is no reason to, as alligator lead sets are ready made and cheap. Get 'em at Radio shack or Home Depot, etc.

Sweet! I'm going to resolder the original wire back to the left coin mech so it's back to stock and then get some alligator leads to clamp to the freeplay button.

I would have gone the 2-player start button route myself (to save the coindoor) but the hole was already drilled and button installed before I had it so I figure I might as well use it.

Thanks SanTe

Just to follow up on this in case someone else has a similar issue or searches this down the road. SanTe's suggestion worked like a champ. I've got both my coin mechs and the free-play button all working simultaniously.
