I've seen a few coin door restorations on here that have a really nice, durable-looking, textured finish. Can someone enlighten me as to what coating is used to achieve this? Would this type of finish be appropriate for a DK?

Also, how does one keep the paint from chipping from the hinges? It seems like if you paint it with the door in one position, wait for it to try, and then move the door, you'd have issues with the coating on the hinges.

Here's an example:

Rustoleum Hammered, or maybe their Textured line. only issue i've had w/ Hammered so far is it comes out a shade of gray/brown and not true black (maybe i got the wrong one?)

I use the hammered than spray a coat of black over it when it dries comes out nice

$5 buck can of rustoleum hammer paint
.97 cent can of cheap black gloss at home depot

i have done at least 20+ restores on coin doors, and i use rustoleum textured black for these. (ataris n such). now for midway texture,i use automotive rock gaurd. in a sray can. then paint it black. this is what you find on the lower parts of cars, that the factory uses to prevent rock chipping.(lumpy look)has the same look as the texture like on pac, ms pac. ect...it sprays on kinda sloppy great texture match. hope this helps a bit.

What would you use on konami cab coin doors such as TMNT?

Hello,
Do you remember the brand name of the rock guard you used? I found 3M rocker panel spray with a Google search, is that the kind of stuff you used.
Thanks,
Rich

Hammered black, with or without another coat of cheap gloss black over it.

Detailing all the other pieces of the coin door is important too if you really want it to pop.

Yes, sometimes repainted doors chip from opening and closing, but ideally you shouldn't be doing that much.
