coin door paint finish

I usually put a layer of "hammered" paint on, then a coat or two of Satin......
But I'd say yes, it is in the eye of the beholder......
Also depends on that machine....

I second Zork on the satin over the hammered paint. The hammered black isn't really black and it's too shiny. I think the Rustoleum products are wonderful. Also look at the Rustoleum Textured black. It looks good too on a lot of things like bolts, cocktail legs, I also used it on the front of my NBA Jam etc.

One other paint I can suggest is found mainly at the auto parts O'Reilly's here in Texas. It's a Krylon line but it comes in semi-flat black which I think is a little flatter than satin and looks very good as well.

That's beauty in my eyes on a budget. Of course powdercoating everything would be the best but who can afford that? lol

I've been really happy with Rustoleum semi-gloss. I tried some Krylon, but the batch I had was really weak looking. Really poor coverage. It took two coats to equal what I got with the Rustoleum.

I painted some trim pieces for my Xevious recently and they came out looking factory.

I do like Krylon's fan spray head. Not to everyone's liking, but I dig it.

On the coin door I just did for my Stern Scramble, I did a light splattering of truck bedliner spray, followed by 2 or 3 coats of Tremclad semi-gloss black. (apparently the Canadian equivalent of Rustoleum satin) I read about the bedliner spray method awhile ago in this thread and I thought I'd try it. Turns out it matches the original texture and finish almost exactly. I'll be using that for all my coin door paint jobs from now on.

Hey, this is my 666th post. :)

I just refinished my DK Jr coin door. I sanded it down to the metal and used about 3 coats of Black Rustoleum Hammered Finish.

It turned out so much better than I expected:

Do you guys use primer when painting coin doors that have been sanded down to the metal? Do you usually just paint over the original paint?

I always get rid of the original paint and sand down to the bare metal. (at least on the front side of the door - if the inside looks decent, I'll just spray over the original paint after a light sanding) I don't use primer, since Tremclad can be applied directly to bare metal without priming first.
