Hey guys. I just bought a Mortal Kombat 1 dedicated arcade machine in pretty good shape. I have a few problems. My first and main problem is the coin door lights aren't turning on. The coin mech's themselves work but the lights don't come on. I checked to make sure the connectors on the bulbs are secure and they are, the filament in the bulbs are intact as well. So it doesn't seem to be the bulbs. Issue 2 is, the side art is in pretty good shape except the bottom (scuffs and scratches). I have been reading and I heard that you can't get full size side art for Mk1 cabinets. Is there anywhere that I can buy the full size side art? And last but not least. When I play the game I will notice sometimes it will flicker on the screen a bit. Sometimes it goes for a while without flickering and then at times it flickers quite a bit. I'm thinking about getting a cap kit but wanted to make sure before I bought one. This is my first arcade machine but have been reading for some time now. I hope to get better and learn from those of you who know best.

Thanks in advance!

coin door lights: if you have a digital voltmeter, I advise you throw it on the 20V test and test the wires going to the lights to make sure you have juice going to them. you're looking for 5 volts here I think. if you have nothing, then you don't have +5 going to them.

side art: you can see if there's any NOS artwork out there. it'll probably be expensive if it's available. there's probably no repro art because nobody with the skills to scan it had a cab worth scanning. :p lots of them have bad fading problems. the lucky few that got cabs that have long since been spraypainted over with black have an advantage in that the black paint worked to preserve what was underneath, and they citristripped (or equivalent) the black paint off.

flickering: this is something I've observed with MK1. it seems to do it the most on the Shang Tsung throne room level. tell me if that's where you're seeing this, like a snowy TV effect? if that's it, then it's nothing wrong with your monitor ... I think this happens on MAME too, so I think it's just an issue with the game programming.

PM me if you have anything newsworthy to share, cause I might not see this thread again.

Ok thanks a lot! Fixed the coin door lights. It was a connector in the back of the cabinet right before it goes to the power supply. Still not sure what the flickering is. By the way I forgot to mention that it is umk3 in a dedi mk1 cab. Also still looking for a place that supplies Mk1 full side art. Midway should still make the side arts for various cabs.

Thanks
