I'm having an annoying problem with my Donkey Kong Jr. cabinet that I can't figure out.
I bought this cabinet several years ago from a collector, but I didn't play it much until recently when I bought a Donkey Kong board to put in it. There was a coin button wired up on the coin door, and I noticed that if I walked across my carpeted basement and touched the coin door, I'd get a shock and the game would either reset or freak out in some other way (screen would flip, colors would invert). Not good, I know.
There is a grounding wire that is connected to the coin door, control panel, speaker, monitor chassis, power supply, the isolation transformer, and the earth ground wire of the power plug (it is not connected to the game board mounting frame at all). I tested all points for continuity to the ground prong on the power plug and I think it's ok. As far as I can tell, this grounding line is not actually connected to the game in any way. I also checked to see if there was any voltage on the grounding line and I don't think there is.
I subsequently took the coin button off the coin door, but I would still get a shock from touching the coin door. I then removed everything else that was touching the coin door except the grounding line (the coin counter and service switch were the only other things on there) and I still got a shock. I finally removed the grounding wire and the shocking stopped.
Anybody have any suggestions on what the problem could be? Even though I got the shocking to stop happening, it seems like there could be some kind of grounding or wiring issue causing it in the first place but I can't find it for the life of me.
