Cocktails to look for, cocktails to avoid

I know people crap on Nintendo cocktails, but after playing one at a show, I don't mind the control orientation.

I wonder if and actual Japanese DK ever made it over to the states. I know older games have.

I'll be honest with you, I want a donkey Kong cocktail back so bad. I sold mine for 450 bucks about 10+ years ago. It's one of my son's favorite games. I loved that version because it's what I remember playing in the arcade. There's one for sale near me non-working but the guy won't budge on the price. Maybe it's time to make a deal.

It's just a preference, but some people who prefer the upright are very vocal about their frustration from playing the cocktail version. I knew a guy with a DK cocktail in his studio, and it got played all the time by employees and random others, and I never heard a complaint about the joystick.

If you always played on a cocktail, you wouldn't care at all. I think ergonomically, the cocktail is probably better because you can move only your wrist vs your whole arm.

Your son has great taste. I have 2 DK cocktails. One a project I got in exchange for some pin repair and one playing blind, but in really nice cosmetic shape. I want a cabaret and will eventually move one of the cocktails on to a new owner after they are both done.

I liked and enjoyed by Asteroids Deluxe cocktail. It was very nice, and would play Asteroids and Lunar Lander.

I still missed the original blue screen from Asteroids Deluxe.

I played Stern Scramble on a cocktail, it was a fun game that I enjoyed playing. Otherwise, I just take the opportunity to play cocktail games as they come. There aren't a lot of them out there. I saw three or four when I was looking at an arcade in New York, but they had been stripped and multi-gamed (ugh) and didn't play very well as a result.

I've been on a cocktail kick for the last few years searching out hard to find cocktail machines. The Galaga 3 is dedicated and super scarce. . Very interesting as it's slightly larger than your typical dedicated Bally midway cabinet. Colors are amazing on it I have been looking for one for a long time and finally found one last week in the same state as me …. Also the Circus Charlie's are pretty cool with the decorative top glass. They only made 100. These are #71 and#96. Also cool and unusual are a solar fox cocktail and a naughty boy cocktail.
Yeah, there is something about Cocktail Cabinets. Maybe because they were usually played while you were waiting for your food in a restaraunt. Nothing like getting through a game of Frogger getting back to your table and there being a fresh pizza waiting for you.🤣

That would be a sweet coctail Cab to own.

Yes I agree the memories of getting food and a cocktail arcade machine always being there. Especially at Pizza Hut . I have a pac man cocktail that came out of a Pizza Hut and that's my favorite thing about that machine… I can just smell the pizza when I play it…..

Hands down bar height cocktails for the win. I've gotten my basement to a place where really the only cocktails left in my lineup need to have the leg extensions. Especially the red tent. Having it up on the tall legs, its stable and more approachable. It takes up less space at the end of a row this way too.

The Red tent plays better standing up, but my Atari row, solid. Part of the cash/trade deal I had to make for my Tempest was my Joust, and although it makes me a bit sad, I can't think of where I'd put it in the house if I had it back.

I'd say this is the best possible lineup you can do with Atari cocktails, (maybe Space Duel would be a good argument to add, but i already have the upright). Asteroids Deluxe, the best b/w vector Atari ever created. Warlords, the best raster and 4p cab Atari ever created, and Tempest, the best colour vector Atari ever created. (If you look closely theres a bar height Rockola Armour Attack there too).

We do have a place for sit down cocktails here. Up on the top floor in the loft area we have a classic gaming section with a 32" tube and various consoles. Along the wall are my Sheriff and Helifire cabs with matching stools I made.

Getting stools out of the basement arcade was a game changer. We have more room and the games are honestly enjoyed more. Some of my friends have smaller kids, but to solve that we just added a couple milk crates that tuck in under the red tent and armour attack. Super simple.

I've had a couple DK cocktails over time, currently I have one on location at a bar downtown and the thing just crushes it. I added a light just above the coin slot and modified it to take loonies.

I look at using the controls on a DK cocktail vs my two uprights is like a different discipline all together. Its the same game of course, but I think it's comparable to overhand vs underhand pitching in baseball/softball

Standing cocktails have some positives. But also, sometimes it's nice to sit down and play a cocktail game. It's key for me to have a spot where I can sit and still be immersed in the gameroom, or sit and have food or drinks. Both setups have their pros and cons.

Good for taking sips of bourbon between levels.

Nice collection of cocktail tables, yes the Galaga 3 shared the same cabinet as Tapper and Journey, I will have to look at my circus charlie cocktail (in storage) and see what number it is

I love my Q*Bert cocktail. The artwork is killer along with the tiny control panels.

Looks great! Can you measure the dimensions of the control panels? I have a Midway cocktail, but I also have the Mylstar FPGA, it would be cool to install the angled joystick on the Midway panel, might have to adjust the artwork accordingly. Thanks!
