I recently acquired a Midway cocktail cabinet that has the original laminate on it. All in all the laminate is in good shape. The only real issue is on one of the control panel sides. There is a big chunk missing off of it.

Is there someplace that still carries this laminate? It looks like a dark oak and I think I once read it was called "gun stock". Can it be obtained anywhere? Is there a current product by Wilsonart or another manufacturer that is the same or very similar? Can it be purchased in small quantities? I obviously don't need a 8' x 4' sheet of this stuff.

Also is there a pattern for those side pieces? I don't want to have to remove the control panel. I would like to be able to just trace the pattern on some wood, lay down the laminate and trim it. Then glue it in place.

If anyone out there has some spare scraps of matching laminate that would also work. I don't need a very big piece.

Thanks

Removing the control panel should take you all of three minutes. If it leads to a nicer repair you should give it a try.

Open the lid, and you should find screws holding metal rails on the inside edge of the control panel. You dont even need to remove them. Just loosen them and raise the panel upward. You should have molex connectors holding the joystick wiring and the button wiring (if the CP even has buttons). Now that you have the control panel free, you can bring it to a kitchen cabinet shop and see if they have any vertical grade laminate that matches up.

It's not the control panel, those are metal and I have taken the off. Each control panel has a wood piece on each side that has laminate on the outside and also t-molding. This is the piece that has laminate damage. It is just one of the sides. I took a look and these wood pieces appear to be glued and screwed into the cabinets. I don't think they are easily removed. Here is a picture of the damaged piece.

They are glued and nailed, likely to break if you try to remove it.
I have some panel sides, bit not sure of what I have planned for them.

Teknotoyz,

Laminate panel sides? I would be interested if you are looking to sell them. Can you send me a picture?

nobody makes an exact match anymore. find something close, or redo the entire cabinet to match. i had to redo an entire cab,for the same damage twice.

Blown23,

Did you take apart your cocktail cabinets when you redid them? How difficult was it to do? The base on mine was shot. All chewed up and swollen with some water damage. I got it off and apart but it wasn't easy and I really wasn't worried about damaging it because it was so messed up. They seem to be built pretty tough.

Replacing the laminate completely did cross my mind but figured it would be difficult to get the cabinet apart so that relaminating it would be easier.

Are the cabinets you redid Midway ones?

I do have a set to sell, the laminate is good on them. I'll get pics posted this evening. These were from a cabinet that had set in water for years. I had a new cabinet made and transplanted the hardware into it. I will warn you that taking these off your cabinet will need to be done carefully. They definitely were not made to remove!

Here are some pics of my finished table. Keep in mind the ONLY original wood is the top under the glass. We used Birch plywood and then stained it. It's not "original" looking, but close enough not to trigger the immediate "home made" comment IMO. :D

Guess which table is not original?

The one on the far right is not the original. But still looks darn good.

Take some pics when you get a chance. I would be interested.

Also where did you get your Pacman overlay? I have the same top with the bigger opening that is square not the smaller angled opening that is on the Ms. Pacman's. Mine did not have an overlay

Thanks

Pics of the CP sides.
$20 shipped, one set is spoken for.

Be forewarned, these will need glue, nails, screws, filler to secure!!
There is a tongue-groove type joint that did break on these, still usable, just look at the pictures for actual condition.

Payment sent via PayPal. Laminate condition is the most important thing to me. I have a side that is missing a big chunk of laminate. I am hoping to just swap the laminate out. Or worst case just the one side.

Hopefully I can heat up the bad one and get the laminate off. Then take the good laminate off and glue it on the cab as a replacement.

Thanks
