another arcade closed in a mall recently...(about a month ago)
gonna try and get pic next week, it was still trying to incorporate standard video games and newer redemption style games...

And for business, geographic investment reasons...
It was near my work, which I would consider a mid/lower class area just north a central phoenix

anyone seeing this more often in your areas lately?

nah, metro, but I heard that went out too a while back I thought...

There are no dedicated arcades within hours of me here in New Bern, NC. All of the malls within 60 miles used to have arcades in them. The last ones closed two years ago. The only arcades are the ones in bowling alleys and batting cage centers now...

Interestingly, the mall near me (where I was a few nights ago for Santa's arrival) just got what can only be described as a mini-arcade. It's got a total of like 6 games - driving cabs, shooters, ddr-types. No humans present, and no apparent redemption. I didn't have time to go in (the kids and all), but I thought it was interesting that it was there at all. It's sort of like just dropping a cab or two into a location, not really an arcade at all.

Anyone else seeing this kind of thing? I imagine that if the mall is letting an operator have the space on a percentage basis, it's still better than an empty store (of which they've got a few).

yea and metro is no exclusion...
probably the least store populated mall for a few states...lots of empty stores
this place used to be decked out too...
surprised really...

All the good places around here are getting rid of their machines entirely or closing as well. Only places around here are a crappy Namco Cyberstation at Greenbrier Mall, a decent off brand mall arcade at Chesapeake Square, and the amazing Flipper McCoys by the oceanfront. Even they had to close their other two locations, though, but do not seem to be in any imminent danger. Thankfully, too- if they close up I'll have to buy a lot of machines if I want to play them again ;)

Tilt still operates in a number of the second tier and smaller malls around here. virtually all large games, no classics, only one or two pinballs if any, and a bunch of redemption.

Silverdale Mall still has Silver Coin i believe. mostly the same as Tilt in a smaller package, but last time i was in there they still had a Galaga and a n/w Roadblasters way in back. i'll be up that way on Tuesday so i hope to drop in and see what's left.

otherwise all the mall arcades around here are long gone.

Nothing around here. The last place that closed was half redemption crap, half shooters; I'm not into either. There's one place about 20 miles away that has "GAME ROOM" painted on the wall but it's super seedy and I think it might be a porn booth place... I haven't investigated yet cuz I don't like to pay for porn when it's free on the internet...

That Tilt Arcade in PV Mall was a sad shadow of what Superfun was so I'm not surprized it's gone and I'm assuming the the one in Metro was the same. Hell the mall itself is a sad shadow of what it once was too. As for Metro I don't go to Metro these days as I don't want to get stabbed.

I'm amazed that the Arcade inside Metro took as long as it did to close considering Castles & Coasters is across the parking lot and has a lot better selection of games anyway.

The one in the PV Mall closed YEARS ago. Somewhere around 2000 I think.

Gameworks is OK, but they have the generic sit down cabs for the Classics, which really sucks for playing games like Robotron.

Not really surprised here. Arrow Head, Ridgemont, etc... took a lot of business away from Metro. Metro was big about 10 years ago, when it was pretty much the biggest mall around, but as soon as those other malls opened up, Metro started declining. Then the crappy economy hit which took another bite out of Metro.

The arcade in PV mall was open last month. I watch Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure to remember how Metro Center use to be.

Must be a different Arcade then what I was thinking of then. I don't remember the name of it, but it was one of the larger chains at the time.

I want to say it was "Tilt", but not 100% sure on that. Hell, I could be imagining things too :)

Yeah Tilt was open last time I was there too (about 4 months ago). Superfun closed in 1990 - 91 as I got all of the neon out if it at that time.
