So I recently picked up a non-working C&D from a member here. I thought I had a working boardset at home, but I'll be damned if I can find it. Oh well. Repair time!

I have two boardsets; one that shows signs of life and one that's dead as a dirt. I'm working on the signs of life one first.

At first, I couldn't get it to do anything; well almost anything. Watchdog barking on both the master and slave CPU's. Verified the ROMS, reflowed the interconnect board, replaced 10mhz crystal (physical damage), and now I can get it to run self test, although it seems to constantly reset during the test. I basically have to power up the game, hit self test, it resets over and over, I hit self test again, and then hit it again, and I get the message to stay up on the screen as seen below. Not quite sure what the weird text at the top of the second screen means.....

I had a member here suggest that it might be bad RAM (it's on order), but I didn't go through the board as much at that point and have any self test results to show him.

At any rate, I looked up the "slave com bad" message and according to the manual, it says if the LED on the slave board is flickering (which it is), the CPU is working, but the "interface circuitry to the communication RAM is not working".

So, it certainly does look like it's RAM related. Just wanted to document for the next guy and see if there's anything else I should look at. Also, what the heck does the text mean at the top of that second self test screen?

How's your interconnect board?

Interconnect *looks* ok but I've heard they can cause problems; I reflowed the solder on it and checked said joints with a magnifying glass and they look ok. Cleaned the card edges and the amp headers on the interconnect appear to be making good contact. However, I'd replace it if possible just to totally take it out of the equation.
