Runs pretty well normally but ever since the battery was removed off the ZPU last week, when I go to boot it up it cycles but then the last beep sort of never gets there and instead of getting to the "please wait" message it stays on that white-ish screen. If I re-boot again right after it cycles perfectly and goes on to attract mode, etc. Any ideas what could cause this?

There was corrosion previously around that metal part the battery hooks onto (the negative part) and I think it's pretty much gone now. It's seemingly getting a bit worse now as it took me a few tries tonight powering it on/off to get it working and past the last beep. Is that metal part necessary because I checked all the connections and chips pretty much and that's the only thing I can think of that's changed since it was working fine before I removed the battery. This is an older pic from before I cleaned off a bunch of the corrosion but where most of the corrosion was is where that metal piece is now pretty much gone.

Steve,

Have you checked the solder side of the board to make sure the acid damage doesn't extend to other tracers? I'm unsure if the game requires the battery....might not be a bad idea to install an external battery backup like most Williams System 11 pins have. Bob Roberts has 'em, super easy to install.

Also, what serial number is your Cliffy? Number can be found stamped into the rear of the cabinet, or inside the rear part of the coin box (with black ink) accessible thru the back door. Most likely will be in the high 200s or low 300s.

Good luck getting it fixed.....that's a great game.
