Cliff Hanger, Pics included, whats it gonna bring

Cliff hanger

This is a highly collectable laser game. I think ir will get $2500+ pretty easy. Fatchuck is selling one on KLOV right now for $4000.

$4000??

$4000 for a Cliffy? LMAO!! ahhh hahahahahahaha

Is it HUO? maybe worth that in MINT condition and HUO!

People are nuts! But, like everyone always says, a games is worth whatever someone is willing to pay...or overpay...sheesh!

Really? Do you know who up here in the mitten went on the raid? I would like to see what else they came across.

Clay Harrell had posted about it in RGP.... I believe he was selling it, but it was posted as non-working....

Unless there are other laser guys looking for multiples or a new guy with a lot of cash I don't see $3000 because the game isn't as rare as a lot of other laser games.

Super Don Quixote hadn't shown up in awhile, and one went pretty high then the two after it aren't fetching remotely close to what that one sold for.

Oh, I forgot to mention, there's ANOTHER one in Atlanta that a guy got from a warehouse raid who sells mostly common stuff with all the parts....so that's 5 that I know of and could be more knowing Jay but this game was widely released...it's not common but it's not OMG $4000 rare or anything.

I have one in B'ham as well:)

...

A few years back $4000 was the going rate. I think the last couple sold around $1800-$2000. I lost out on 2 for $3800 and $4000 in 1999 :(

Ok so what we have here is my educated guess...... 3475 plus actual shipping charges lmfao

...i gotta stick by my original estimate- $3700. everyone is quoting how "common" this game is... lets compare "common" to other games: star wars? dime a dozen. tron? yup- ms pacman? so, were talking supply for demand. Cliffhanger is on MANY want lists -and considered a grail that many cant even seriously consider. just the fact that we are ABLE to refer to the last "3 or 4" that have come up for sale is a testament to its true rarity. as far as laser games go- cliff hanger usually falls right behind dragons lair as the best laser game ever. dragons lairs still bring $1k -$1.5K and they have got to be 10 times as common. yes- also more desireable. cliff hanger is also tough to keep running. if someone really has access to 5 or 6 of these machines for $1k each on the east coast- i suggest making a quick trip to triple your money!

You can't compare those games to this game. No one said you can get these games for $1000 each, I merely stated what the last one on auction went for when it was stated one of these had not showed up in ages.

You want to compare rarity compare it to something like I, Robot. That game doesn't hit $3000. Rarity never equates to value on lots of items. If it did one of a kind items by default would be worth tons.

Also, Dragon's Lair is the Super Mario Bros of laser games. If you had a choice between SUper Mario World for SNES and Bebe's Kids for rarity you go for Bebe, but no one wants it and Mario is infinitely more desirable.

We're talking about lasers that DO come up. This game is for sale in the forums (for $4000, but it is for sale) and it has been for sale a few times. There are many games I have never seen for sale publicly, but privately I've been able to obtain them.

I mean, I have never seen a complete NFL Football for sale, and that is more common than this game, right? Yet I have seen 2 Zwackeries in 3 years for sale.

First, this game has not been advertised at 4000.00 Someone else is trying to sell one for that, but not me. Also, comparing it to games like I,Robot is not the same either. Ive got one of those. And they come up for sale alot more often than Cliff Hanger. Quantum brings the 3K and its more common than i,robot, . Ive seen several dedicated major havok's sell and they bring that value as well. Ive had 3 quantums lined up in a row before, but i have never had 3 CH next to each other.

Ive owned alot more games than most, and still have more than most just sitting in one of my buildings. Im not saying that to say anything along bragging or such. Im saying it to justify that i think that my knowledge on what would be considered rare (either in terms of number produced or numbers that come available for sale) should be pretty accurate.

While I 'Need' a Cliff Hanger, I think it depends if the right person looking for one at the time has the money and is willing to pay 'whatever' for it. I know I'd pay some serious coin to get a Enviro Discs of Tron. But I have seen a few Cliffy's go from time to time, and most I'd pay would be $2K for a good condition working one (and I did say I NEED one) I'd pay a LOT more for the EDoT (just saying I'd pay more than it's worth too)

For me, I'm thinking of getting a empty cab, making it run the Cliff Hanger Restored Edition via Daphne and being done with it. My Dragon's Lair and Space Ace play up all the time with the players (even with the newer players) My Dragon's Lair now runs via Daphne (with the newer HD footage, ripped to correct video size)

So all in all, if you get what you want great, but like I said, you need to have a buyer that would pay anything for one at that time to get top dollar I think and be a die hard collector wanting original internals (knowing some won't want aftermarket players and add-on cards)

Good luck with the sale

I never said you were selling it for $4000.

I don't understand how people take my posts and insert things I never said. I clearly stated someone on the forums. I never even mentioned you by name PERIOD.

I, Robot does not come up a "lot" more than Cliff Hanger. The comparison is valid because I, Robot is a rare game as well.

No one is denying the game is rare. I think $3700 is a bit wtf, that is the estimate I was referring to.

We can all say what we want on what we consider "rare." Without "bragging" I have 16,000+ console games and numerous one of a kind prototypes. Rarity does not always equate to value on some of these. Arcade machines...I have been going to more arcades than I can count since 1980 and have hundreds of machines...in terms of what I have come across from arcade to arcade, warehouse to warehouse, and collector to collector I have seen way more Cliff Hangers instead of I, Robot and I think the rarity is a bit overstated. Laser collectors tend to always have one of these or more in their collection.

From the arcades I had frequented in the early 80s, I, Robot I saw only at random Aladdin's Castles, but Cliff Hanger I saw in many places.

I mean, I know about rarity as well; heck, I saw Esh's Aurunmela (sp) at TWO places growing up. One of them being a grocery store but it was not until recently was I made aware that Funai was headquartered where I grew up, making sense why that game I had only seen over there. I can't say the same for Cliff Hanger though. It was the 3rd most sited laser game I saw behind Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. I had never seen a Super Don Quixote at any arcade or a Thayer's Quest but saw multiple Cliff Hangers.

Regardless I wish you good luck with your sale, I am not denying the game is rare, but I am denying the $3700 mark on this which was not even brought up by you.

Neat machine; I'd love to have one. Good luck with your sale!

(BTW, I think it's up to us to kill off use of the "HUO" term for arcades once and for all, before it totally infiltrates eBay. It's useless.)

Will Cliff get stuck in a trap door for the rest of his life?
