i plan on buying a new playfield in the future anywyas... i just wan to try and stop thi before it digs worse...

"easiest" would mylar.

Otherwise, you could spot clear it with Varathane from a spray can.

I am faced with an upcoming project requiring the same.

I have heard people use Tamiya clear coat - brush it on lightly, sand down with 600 grit.

I have also heard water based super glue, very light, also sand down.

In the past i've used the superglue, it came out ok.

Wondering if anyone else here has experience on this. Thanks.

I'd go with mylar as well, unless you plan to do touchups before sealing the area. Mylar can be removed with touchups applied later - a bit harder to do with clear.

Keeping it clean & well waxed will work otherwise - just make sure you don't have chipped-up balls in the game. If in doubt, replace them - they're cheap. Most of the damage I see on Centaur's is due to beat up balls - take 5 chipped up balls rolling around, and damage sets in quickly.

The repro playfields are getting harder to find, so if you can salvage the one you have, that may end up being the best (and possibly your only) option. I'd avoid clearing it without doing touch-ups first.

Best bet is clear shelf paper (can be bought pretty much anywhere). Cut it to size, and apply. If you go mylar, apply Novus 2 first. This way you aren't pulling more paint later if you want to do something with it. With the shelf paper, it stays on, looks good, but the adhesion is way less "deadly" than mylar.

I definitely wouldn't spot clear it unless you are going to touch it up. If the looks bother you, create a waterslide decal (or touchup if you have the skills for that area), and then spot clear it.

Is there clearcoat on the rest? I think only diamond plated fields had clearcoat on them? Else you are better off touching it up and clearcoat the entire playfield.
