Paper towels and a mild cleanser like 409 or Simple Green. Also, wear gloves!!! You don't want years of nicotine buildup on your skin.

When you clean the back, be careful not to spray the aquadag (the black soot stuff). Instead, use a dry cloth and wipe gently.

I just throw them in the back of my pickup and drive through a carwash.

Just kidding.

I dont really own a pickup.

In regards to the dag and the usual buildup of dust - I keep a huge cheapo soft paintbrush for dusting purposes that works great to clean the dust off the dag. Combine that with an air compressor (or compressed air either way) and it usually cleans em up like new!

I like Mean Green for cleaning the build up off the front of the tube, then I follow up with Windex to clean off the Mean Green since it leaves streaks.

For cleaning the dust off the Aquadag (black graphite paint) on the back of the tube, I use a Swiffer Duster. Those things are amazing on pinball playfields, guage clusters, ect.

I was just going to ask if I was the only person who uses Windex. I have always used Windex. Spray it on a paper towel and scrub the screen with it. Then take a frsh set of paper towels and repeat process. Typically by the 3rd time you do this your tube is completely clean and smudge/streak free.

So far I've only had dag loss from a Matsushita that's in my Pole Position. I usually use simple green and towels to wipe a tube down. Whatever you use just be a little cautious around the dag, but for what it's worth, that Matsushita is the only one I've ever had a problem with in terms of cleanin a picture tube. It's cool to see a monitor looking super clean when it starts out coverted in grime.

I do the heavy cleaner + garden hose in the driveway trick. Works better than compressed air or a dry brush ever will. Just keep an eye on the dag, if it starts coming off then just stop. I have only had one even start to flake off, out of many.
