I am cleaning my new Space Invaders. It has a big mirror that looks to be coated on one side. It has a huge amount of dust on it. What cleaner is safe to use on the coated side of the mirror. I don't want to scratch the mirror or damage the coating.

I use/used just regular glass cleaner on these mirrors. My Sea Wolf and EM gun games also have them. In the end if you don't use glass cleaner it will smear and streak no matter how clean you think you have it.

I use Mean Green from the Dollar Store for the first pass, to get off the heavy accumulation of dust and smoke residue, the finish up a good glass cleaner to take off the streaking and haze Mean Green leaves behind.

Sounds like more work than just using glass cleaner by itself, but Mean Green cleans so well, you're actually saving time over doing multiple applications of glass cleaner.

Make sure you place the mirror back in the correct orientation and not reversed! You'll have a nice double-image in the field of view if it becomes the case!

Just cleaned a space invaders mirror that probably hadnt been touched since it left the factory. I thought the back side had a "special" coating- then i cleaned it. Eff me! It was a layer of dust so thick, I thought it was supposed to be there. When its shined the difference between the two sides is *just* noticeable.

Is there a method to remove the mirror? The staples were loose on one end of my backdrop so I just popped it off, carefully slid it out the back and reached in there with my left arm. I used regular Windex and micro fibre rags from Harbor Freight. I think next time they put these on sale I'm buying more - they're awesome for this stuff!

Mine was so dirty I couldn't even see the backdrop - at all.

I took mine out yesterday- I found that removing the two wooden mounts in the back was not good for removing it but ok if you're installing a monitor. To remove the mirror completely tho, remove the two front wooden clamps and pull it out the front of the machine.

oh yeah- picked up the white blacklight for the back- don't forget that. Went all over town for it- and found the last one at a place called Lightbulbs Unlimited, last one? Not very Unlimited.
