I have a bunch of solid white plastic posts that have yellowed overtime and need to be cleaned.

Is there something that will clean them white again?

I'm trying to soak them in bleach-white but it doesn't appear to be helping at all...

VB,

Are they smooth, constant diameter, or do they have indentions? The reason I ask is if they are smooth you could maybe put a bolt through the post, put the bolt in your drill chuck, then use a Magic Eraser wetted with alcohol and spin the post against it to clean it up.

The are not smoothed sided, maybe six sided... ?

Any other alternatives to ultrasonic cleaner?

VB,

Trying to "whiten" these old posts is wasting time. The plastic is yellowing and disintegrating. It's simply easier to just buy new ones from Pinball Resource.

If you are really determined to reuse the old ones, you could spray paint them gloss white.

Ok.. I give... I'll actually read the post
I totally glazed over the "yellowing white posts" part. You can't clean the yellow out of those (unless you experiment with the peroxide whitening technique). I was thinking "how do you clean all the wax, hard rubber, ball dust, etc) of your standard colored posts"..

doh!

???? never heard of that one... do you have a link?

i always get new ones from pinball resource. i had a bunch that turned greyish black because someone put black rubber on a wedgehead game with white posts.......new ones do look nice!!

I did a little cleaning and managed to get them pretty clean.. not new but close enough.

Thanks for the new peroxide technique... I'll look into that next go around.

VB,

Ok, this thread got me thinking about cleaning small plastic parts ... I bought an untrasonic cleaner off of ebay ($135, shipped). The photo of it looks pretty decent, but I guess we will see once it arrives.
