What is the best way to clean a tube and chassis on a monitor like a G07?

If seen videos of people spraying on simple green and washing it off with a hose??

Just search here for 'wash monitor'. (Use the advanced search page, and search titles only). There are several good long threads about it, with lots of info.

i have washed hundreds of tubes and chassis. obviously you have to wait to power them up until they are fully dry.
tubes: i use a shower wand so you lots of water and not a ton of pressure and wet it down then spray with simple green HD and i use a 2 inch paint brush to lightly wipe it all over and rinse thoroughly.

the chassis i do separate in a sink or in the dishwasher if i have alot of them to do at once. i have a thread i did a few years ago about the details of using a dishwasher properly but if you only have one than use the sink. i spray them and carefully use the 1 1/2inch paint brush on the component side and a very stiff bristle brush for the solder side.

It's a strange feeling the first time you wash the electronics/tube but trust me it's worth it. Just be gentle, use low pressure and make sure you dry properly (I use a box fan and normally let things dry for 24 hours minimum). Working on gunky boards/tubes sucks.

I do a final rinse with distilled water especially on the chassis. I also do this when washing boards. Does it matter? I don't know but a gallon of distilled water is very cheap insurance.

That's fine, but it genuinely doesn't matter. I wash boards daily in the sink with Greased Lightning, and rinse with hot tap water. I've literally done hundreds of them, with no issues.

doesn't the aquadag just wash right off a G07? that's why I don't bother trying to clean tubes. chassis I pull the flyback off first and give it the simple green and hot water treatment, followed with drying with a hair dryer after.

Not normally. I've washed dozens of G07 and wells K4600 K4800 etc and not had one issue with the dag coming off. That being said I also don't let the cleaner soak very long either. Simple Green will remove paint if allowed to soak.

that's a wives tale...;)

i have done hundreds of tubes and the only time aquadag will come off is if it was already flaking off and then its good to take off all the loose flaky aquadag and reapply it. i don't let the cleaner sit on it a very long time.

if that's a legit problem for you:

massive +1 to what everyone else is saying here.

it seems really stupid/cavalier to do, but it's the safest and simplest way to clean a CRT. done it several times just this year.

good luck OP!

No one here is afraid of hard water mineral deposits left behind?
