Is this necessary if it looks like some of the legs have rust or have dulled with oxide to clean them somehow? If so what would you use to clean them? Just some light sand paper?

Thanks!

fine grit sandpaper definitely.

on the newer non windowed roms they don't tend to oxidize so much but i hit them to. i do both sides and always blow them off before re installing them.

personally i use 320 wet/dry for metal

I'll use a fiberglass pencil (Fry's or Radio Shack) or if they are corroded badly, a flat headed jeweler's screwdriver to scrape that crap off.

For Namco Customs, I prefer Tarn-X, q-tips, and a rinse with water.

Thank you gentlemen. I wanted to ask making sure I wasn't using something too abrasive.

I've heard mixed reviews about the fiberglass pen... guess i'll just have to review it myself :D

Many recommend it, i've just always had good luck with 320grit.

Deoxit + eraser work for me, only thing is that Deoxit can actually take a day or two for it to do its work.

I used it on my super hang on board and it wasn't until today before the game started working 100% again.

ugh if you knew how many chips i cleaned and how often you'd know that wouldn't work for me.

can't recall seeing rust on chip legs.....but tarn-x will clean off the residue, but be warned, it smells awful and you do have to rinse it well after cleaning.

Old steel legged Williams 4116 ram chips would be a good example of this
