I finally finished shopping out my F14, woo hoo! I put the glass back on and admire the clean, functional pin.

As I am admiring it, I look at the display and I think "I don't think I've ever cleaned the inside of those before." so I pull out the display, clean the actual display glass and the lower translite cover (not sure exactly what to call that)

Wow. And just like that I am looking at a ultra bright, sharp 'like new' display. I look over at earthshaker and whirlwind. by comparison their displays look like they were cleaned with cigarette butts and bacon.

I do the same to those and voila, an amazing difference.

So yeah, dumb I know. I'm sure You guys do that as part of your standard cleaning routine but I thought I'd share.

I don't think I've found another bang for your buck/effort result like that since I've been collecting pins!

LOL!

I worked with a dude a long time ago that wasnt very bright... He was doing the same as you are speaking of in this thread but he SOAKED the display boards WITH THE GAME POWER UP!

Lots of magic smoke was let out that day!

On DMD games, it can look like there is a cloud between the display and the display panel. It always looks a lot better once cleaned. Just be sure to not to spray anything on the DMD (or regular display). It is better to spray the cleaner of your choice on a paper towel or rag, and then wipe the DMD or display clean in a gentle motion.

Just my 2 cents. Another way to look at it is: if it isn't broken don't fix it.

Yeah, need to be careful for sure. Mine were all system 11's, no dmds but the concept remains the same.

Fwiw, I'd say that a cloudy looking display is 'broken' and in need of fixin!
