On one side there should be a c-shaped locking thingy that you can remove using the sharp point of an exacto-blade. It holds in the shield on that side.

i dont see anything like c shaped on it, it only round
how come, ??

Yours seem to have pressed in seals.

I usually pop one side out, clean the bearing and then put it back in the machine "safe side in" so that the open side is as protected as possible until I get new ones.

In short - your bearings are designed to be replaced and will probably only cost a couple of dollars so why not just chuck them?

ok thanks for the replys, now ive got another problem, this time one the open bearings so I tried to oil my bearings with 3in one, after applying them it went more slow, i then looked at the 3 in 1, it said motor oil, darn, after looking on the internet i saw a 3inone MULTI PURPOSE oil, is this the one i should use on the bearings??
thanks

If you know you are going to replace the bearing soon you can use vegetable oil or olive oil. This is a only a tempary fix. Motor oil is ok but the multipurpose 3 in 1 is about 5 weight oil. Sewing machine oil is the best to use. You can also soak the bearing in kerosene. (kero is a type of oil) or soak them in the oil you want to use.

If you have it apart just measure it and get new ones. Most are a few bucks each. Try www.mscdirect.com or www.sdp-si.com.

3 in 1 is terrible for bearings in my opinion. I used it too and results were worse than before. Use Tri-Flow lubricant. The stuff is awesome.

Thabks alot guys do yo also think that the multi purpose 3 in 1 is bad ??

3 in 1 is fine to use. It might be thin enough that on metal shielded (not sealed) you can soak the bearing and it will migrate into it.

Stay away from wd40. It is good only as a temporary repair. It will leave a gummy film after a while.

You can still flush shielded bearings out using something like brake cleaner. If I'm working on a Centipede trackball, I'll chuck one of the shafts in a drill, and use it with angled pressure to spin the bearings I'm flushing out while holding the outer race with a shop rag.

If there is any rust it will flush out, then you can lubricate with light oil. I like to use turbine oil, but sewing machine oil is good too.

what does the majority of people use, i want something good, but not exotic, you know

I used to repair military aircraft

This is their procedure (Not intended for worn bearings, just bearings with too little grease)

  • Remove caps (very carefully with the knife shown above)
  • clean old grease out
  • rinse residue out
  • Repack bearing grease into gaps, IE work it through in 1 direction only, until even and visible on the other side
  • Remove excess (we used to use pinky finger to scrape)
  • Rotate and test etc
  • Fit covers back on
  • Listen and decide if OK

By the way, these bearings were not fitted yet, they were a bad batch (New)

But same applies I guess

i just got the MULTI PURPOSE 3 in 1, put on the bearing, and stayed, just like the MOTOR OIL 3inone, should i do something, else, I dont wnna buy new bearings, and im looking to fix this prbolem right now, should i rinse it off, clean it and then apply the oil, ???
thanks alot

Use bearing grease, not oil, oil will leak out :)

bearing grease, ??, its gonna be like the third time that im gonna buy something for these bearings, and its costin me more than the machine, looll,
someone poseted bearings online, but it was too compplicated to find mine, anyone know the exact place to buy centipede coktail bearings?? thanks

How are your shafts and ball? In my experience they wear worse than the bearings.
If the bearings spin and are not rusty, they are most likely fine.

Shafts should look like this ||

not like this )(

yes i know, my shafts are a little bent BUT, it workded better even before i opened my machine and putting the oil on the the bearings, im now thinking of placing the bearings in hot soapy water, cleaning it all of, and then applying the oil and see the results..
is that good??
or will it damage the bearings

Not water. Water+steel=rust. Got any kind of solvents around? Brake cleaner is awesome, but turpentine, mineral spirits, paint thinner, or even gas would be better than water.

If you want bandaid results do this.

If you want good results, replace the bearings

All bearings have a number on them

IE: 6201RS, 6002 ZZ

RS = rubber seal, ZZ = metal

Look here
Bearings are cheap

Why mess about, look at your numbers on yours, and buy new ones
