Just picked up a Judge Dredd pinball and would like to clean and wax the playfield, just wondering what wax to use. I will use Novus 2 to clean it and I know to use a carnauba wax, I was looking at either Mothers Carnauba wax or Maguire's Carnauba Wax. Which is better for the playfield?

Just came across this Mothers product Mothers® Pure Carnauba , it says that it is pure carnauba wax which is what I believe I need, anyone use this before? Canadian tire by my place has it.

As long as it Carnauba wax your good, put like 4-5 coats and enjoy playing a fast pinball game, cheers. Although I have been using Meguire's caranuba wax but it's not the paste form, it in a squeezable bottle, I put 4-5 coats on the playfield with it, any negatives with this kind of wax?

Is your playfield Diamond Plated? If it is I'd personally clean the playfield. Then start with Novus 2 and finish with Novus 1. DP'd playfields really don't need to be waxed.

The only stuff I have ever used is Wildcat 125. It cleans and polishes pretty darn good. I've been using it for about 10 years now on mylared and non-mylared playfields and never had any problems.

You're better off using that stuff in an oil lamp.Pretty much the same stuff.Too many solvents...

I agree. Wildcat is to strong. Novus 2 all the way. I've personally used the Maguires Caranuba Wax for 10+ years now. I use the same as Steelhorse, in the squeeze bottle.

Use mother's 100% carnuba past4e wax....I got mine at canuck tire as well....works awesome !!!!

I'm having a heck of a time finding pure carnauba wax in town. I find plenty of carnauba wax cleaners, but nothing 100% carnauba wax without some sort of additive.

Online I can find this: http://www.amazon.com/Mothers-05550-California-Natural-Carnauba/dp/B0002U2V1O

Will that work?? Or are the ones with additives okay?

Help!

I could not find it locally either. K-Mart, Walmart, Autozone, etc. no longer carry pure carnauba wax. I ordered the Mothers from Amazon and am using it. All the carnauba waxes available locally have micro polishing agents which is not what you want.

The 100% pure carnauba only means the wax is pure carnauba but there are other additives. I called some wax companies several months ago as I had read on several sites not to use petroleum distilates on the playfield. I was told that all the pure carnauba waxes contain petroleum distilates. If it didn't the wax would be so hard you could not apply it. Some sites did correctly refer to bad and good petroleum distilates. I'm no expert but can only recommend buying good quality wax brands and hope that what I use will be fine. Stay away from ones that contain micro polishing agents, cleaners, etc.

Don't use ANY WAX!! It will settel in every pitt & crack and you will have hella of a time to ge it out. Use the Novis 1. The 2 does the job as well as it can get. The 1 will polish without leaviing any residue..

Yeah dont play! It will make the game dirty and you'll have a hell of a time cleaning it up again!
As Lindsey has implied not using wax is a bad idea. If you dont have the time to clean it up correctly maybe you shouldn't have them.

Also don't clean the playfield. You might get your fingers dirty. GROSS!

In fact just don't play the game at all. Don't go near it.

LOL - if anyone appreciates sarcasm it's me.
My take on wax is this - if a PF is clear coated I see no reason why to use wax on it. Novus 2,1 and done. If it's a non CC PF then of course it makes perfect sense to wax it. In fact Novus 2,1 and then wax is the ideal usage.

And candle wax on the nipples for celebration when done :D
