cleaned my first monitor

canned air can also blow dust deeper into places you don't want it, although i agree it works for blowing the dust around and getting it in the air so it can settle back down onto what you just cleaned or other already clean parts (unless you do it out side then this does not apply).

I myself have always used canned air (to clean home computers), after all this garden hose love i guess i'll just have to put mine to the test.

Here in AZ, it doesn't take long for it to dry in the summer. I set it either on my back porch, or in my garage. If I want to hurry up the process I put a fan next to it blowing on the chassis.

Usually after a couple hours in 100F+, it's dry enough to work on. After I cap it, I'll let it set over night just to make sure.

I'm in Georgia. I blew it out with an air compressor, let it sit in the direct sun at about 80deg for two hours, then put it in front of a fan near the dehumidifier for about 4 hours. It had top half vertical collapse for about 10 seconds, then ran perfectly.

Westley's Bleche Wite Tire Cleaner makes Simple Green look like child's play when you are spraying a monitor. Works really good on harnesses too without having to scrub, although there's always an extra crispy turd somewhere that could use a little scrubin' on most arcades I restore lol.

Simple green makes them smell so minty fresh though:)

I cleaned my first monitor / g07.
what's the wait time for this sucker to air dry ? I probably won't mess with it for a few weeks so It shouldn't be an issue.

I hose mine off all the time. No problem. Here's a tip on drying that I use that I haven't seen mentioned. If you're in a northern city like me (Chicago area), obviously this is only good in the summer. After you hose it off and let the main water run off and dry off for an hour or two, put it in the back seat of your car (I typically set it with the tube face down on the seat) and after you drive to work in the morning, park your car in a sunny spot and make sure the windows are all rolled up tight. When you finish work for the day, your monitor will be all freshly baked and dried out.

I'm glad this wasn't the first thread I ever read on KLOV. I'm pretty sure I would never have returned. That said, I'll be Simple Green'ing and water hose'ing my monitors from now on. Astro Blaster's Electrohome go7 gets a bath next Saturday.:)
