I have a claw machine that doesn't know when to stop, close, and go up. Aka, it goes down too far before closing the claw. On my other machines, if product is placed high up, once it hits the product, the claw closes and proceeds up and home. This other machine I have (a Rainbow) goes down, hits the product, continues to go down until the end of the string, closes, and then returns home.

I'm not sure what to check on it in order to resolve this issue. What tells these machines to stop going down?

Most of them have a switch mounted on the arm of the take up pulley. When the claw hits the plush, it releases the tension on the arm and the switch gets triggered. Unfortunately most of them don't have much adjustment room in the switch to alter when it happens.

This.^^^ If you are unsure, take a photo of the claw string and motor assembly.

I just spent a few hours working on cranes today, i'd be happy to pass on anything I can.

Hey guys....thanks for the help! It turns out the micro switch had become dislodged. One I reattached that, it is working correctly now.

One other question....I'm not getting any right or back movement from the claw. But the microswitches seem to be working. I quarter up, move joystick to right or forward, it will not move....but it triggers the time clock to start. If I manually push the trolley out, I can successfully move left and backwards.

When I turn dip switch #2 on for maintenance, I am pulling the correct codes for all microswitches being good; forward, rear, left, right, and neutral. I've also checked the electrical connections at these microswitches and all seem well.

Any idea on what I can check to figure out why I can't get any forward or right movement in game play?

When you are in maintenance, is there a test mode for movement? Sounds like you may have loose wires somewhere. Recheck all your connections, and make sure the female sides of the pins arent too stretched.

If forward and right are activating the clock, then the board is recognizing the joystick, just not passing that on to the cradle.
If you can move left and back once the cradles out, your motors are at least okay.

So good joystick, and good motors mean only two things. Bad connection at the cradle or board, or problem with the board.

Good luck!
