Classic video games seized at L.A. port

I guess it's just me... but I think that's pretty damn ugly. The ass end looks ridiculous.

Nah I like it but then I like European sports cars. You must be one of those Corvette guys (Blech!) ;) I think it is BS that customs would latch on to 'em. If they were track cars they would be fine you just can't drive them on the road so it puzzles me how they can get away with more or less stealing them.

As far as the cocktails go, Oh well those are bootleg so I don't feel sorry for the guy.

As far as the games go......no comment.

As far as the 959...looks like a 911 with an NSX rear.

As far as the Corvette comment....the new ZR1 is insane. To top it off I work for the only GM dealership in the country that is hottrodding Camaro's and Vette's at the dealership. We have 427 Bigblock SS supercharged Camaro's with 750+ horsepower built by Redline Motorsports. They recently got ahold of one of our Zr1's and added 120 more horse to make it almost 800!
This car is insane.....PERIOD!

What if you were importing genuine vintage machines? Those don't come with authorization from the copyright holders either.

Under copyright law, right of use is transferable with title.
For instance, selling used CD's and Books.

Those damn Porche 959's are of no use to me whatsoever...

You can't even haul a damn 19" monitor in one of them much less a standard upright cabinet...

I would take a good ol' pickup truck anyday over a Porche...

I always wanted to import one of these.

I see those mini chinese trucks often.. not street legal.. go for way too much too.. for not being street legal..

I've been seeing some ebay multi games being sold.. where they say they will ship the board separate to you with instructions on how to install them...

What you expect customs to do w/ illegal goods.. regardless of what they are? say.. well.. we seized them.. but their here anyways.. so lets have an auction...

nope.. they get destroyed.. not worth their time to go into the salvage business and part out what they can...

I drive one of these regularly at work. There are tons of them on military bases. Total POS.

Back to the OP: I am glad they did what they did. If more customs officials would do their job there'd be a significant drop in illegal imports from overseas.

I know that, but they don't come with any documented authorization from the copyright holder. It would be up to the "CBP" to be able to tell the difference between real and fake, and I'm skeptical of their ability to do so.

if they were legit... the buyer would have the proper paperwork...

I agree it just goes against our nature to destroy something that has some value/ use to it...

prob find a load of counterfeit artificial hearts in the next box...

What kind of "proper paperwork" is there for a 25 or 30 year old arcade machine? Is Nintendo, Atari, Namco, Taito, etc., going to issue a CoA for it? I'm not suggesting that the cocktails that were seized were legitimate; but if they were, how would the CBP know?

I've driven electric cushmans... But in Japan they are Gas powered and run on the streets.

Unfortunatly, nothing, being that the Obama admin is totally in the hands of the RIAA and other fucking assholes.

But if your importer can show that they were original machines, you should be able to get them... Eventually. Through the courts.

I was just speaking theoreticallly before.

Also: Those "This game is only legal in Japan" intros on games, holds no weight. It hasn't since the late eighties, although they continued to put it in games for some time afterward.

A friend of mine years ago got one of those crumby CJ motorcycles out of China that are old BMW knock offs. They had an unbelieveable time with customs because the damn tires were not rated for use in the good old USofA. Complete BS as you could just have the local DMV deal with that sort of a problem but no customs has to get involved. We've got some real stupid laws in this country and these have been in place long before the current administration or even the previous one.

There is no question the Vette is a powerful fast car but unfortunately it is still a Corvette :D You either always like them or you don't. Personally I don't but If I were to buy new American muscle it would the new Challenger as it is the closest thing to the Cuda I had in highschool. Nowhere near as good as the Vette in perfomance but I like the look way better but for the money I still take my little Boxster (I know nowhere near the perfomace of the Vette, don't care.) and what I want next a little Lotus Elise but to each their own ;)

If it says "60-in-1", then they know it's a fake!

But seriously, with Namco and Nintendo clamping down on the bootlegs, I'm sure customs has been supplied with plenty of information about what to look for.

namco and nintendo should either make new boards available or stfu.

Interesting. I had never heard of that before. It turns out quite an interesting list of cars approved and cars denied to date:

http://fourwheeldrift.wordpress.com...r-husband-a-euro-spec-supercar-for-christmas/

It's not just special car permits that are given out. There are also Curiosa firearms permits (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federa...ctors_of_Curio_and_Relic_.28C.26R.29_Firearms ), etc. Ok...getting really off topic.

I'm surprised its taken this long for any action to be taken against the multigame units.

And besides upsetting the copyright holders it sure hasn't done wonders for the value of classic original (single-game) machines.

Bill Gates and Paul Allen, both owners of 959s, lobbied for and helped pass the Show and Display law in 1999, which allows a non-certified car to be driven up to 2,500 miles a year on US roads.

The ones I drive are gas powered with four speed transmissions, they are Korean I think. Of course, those are used on the west coast. On the east coast electric carts from GEM are used. They are even worse and have a tendency to freeze up in the winter.

C&R's are great for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is being able to directly order or go pick things up and transport them inter-state w/o having to have them transferred through a local FFL (most times a local gun store) first. A lot of people get them so they can order Garands directly through the CMP, but there's a few interesting loopholes that open up to C&R holders. </derail>

I wonder what makes that skyline different enough that people would want it but not different enough to qualify for the exception.

They do. Except now they're on discs, and you play them at home in your Wii.

Strangely, Nintendo has never released a collection of its arcade games for any platform. The NES versions are available, but not the arcade versions.

Namco, Atari, Williams, Taito, Konami and others have had emulated or nicely ported arcade collections to all manner of consoles for quite some time. I wonder why Nintendo hasn't done it.
