Classic video game tournament in michigan, need input.

will be having a pinball and classic video game tournament in michigan. 2 day event. may 6th and may 7th. all info will be posted in a few days.

3 different games will be used in the video tourney (berzerk, donkey kong, gorf).

all entry fees will be paid back to the winners 100%.
payouts go like this below and more prizes may be added:
1st- 50% of pot plus trophy
2nd- 25% of pot
3rd- 15% of pot
4th- 10% of pot

my question is:
WHAT SHOULD THE PRICE BE PER PLAY (TICKET)?
remember, all entry fees are paid back to the winners 1st through 4th place.
keep in mind, you can enter as often as u want up until playoffs. you can only keep your highest score per game and an excel spreadsheet i used to combine totals per machine using a rank system based on each score.
we do this often in the pinball realm and its usually:
1 play (ticket) for $4 or 3 plays (tickets) for $10. a ticket allows you to play once on whatever machine you choose.
obviously, the higher the cost to play, the higher the payouts are.

3 plays for $10 probably wouldn't be too bad...it's not outrageous, and it would give you a play on each game. Just hope you don't get any kill screen players...DK takes a couple hours to kill screen ;)

I've thought about something similar. But $10 for three plays seems to be too much to me. People tend to prefer a "one price/play as many times as you can" scenario, which is why it is important to establish the number of games there will be in comparison to the possible number of entrants.

Another option is to set the machines on $1.00 plays and use the take from the coin boxes. (But again, multiples of each titles would be the only way to make this event plausible).

You will have to expect that here will be a gamer who shows up and puts up a score that no one will come close to on perhaps each game.

Since I've never played Berzerk, Donkey Kong or Gorf, let's say that the games were Ms. Pac-man, Mario Bros. and Millipede. I don't presently have the world records on these games, but there would be a very good chance that no player better than me would show up at this particular event, and all I'd have to do is play one game on each.

That would take the fun out of the whole event where people would still have to continue to shell out $10 for each of their next three game plays.

Where are you located? How about 2 games for $5 and a buyback at $3 per game?

Worst score would be a funny booby prize too!

I think it would be a blast. I suck at all those games but I would still come and play just to hang out and shoot the $h1t with you guys. If the price wasn't that steep I don't think anyone would care about a ringer coming in. As far as price goes, make it 5 tickets for 10 bucks and if someone wants a "Buy-in" then $3 a ticket from then on.
