Hey,

I didn't see anyone post about this... Classic Gaming Expo (http://www.cgexpo.com/) is coming up in Vegas this weekend (7/31-8/1). While it's geared toward classic video games of all kinds, arcades are certainly a part of it. Anyway, I'll be making the trip out there... anyone else going? It'd be cool to meet up with other KLOVers there. I'm gonna try to make it over to the Pinball Hall of Fame while I'm there as well.

Anyway, I've gone there for the last few shows... it's always a great time. They've always got really interesting speakers, lots of buy/sell/trading, lots of video games to play, a really cool museum with all kinds of rare stuff, and an auction with lots of crazy stuff for sale.

Also, for anyone local to Vegas... the show coordinators are looking for more arcade games for the show. I'm volunteering to help with the set up/repair of the arcades this year, but when I talked to them, they said they'd be glad to give free admission to the show if anyone can bring some games to be played. Drop me a PM if you can bring some, and I'll get you in contact with them.

And I'll be bringing lots of repair stuff (tools, parts, etc)... if you have some broken games (complete, but not working), I'd be glad to try to repair them, if they can be used in the show if I get them going.

hey dogp, i will not be there, but would you be willing to check out/play atariage's atari 5200 tempest that's finally being released and tell me how it is? i've been waiting for this to come out for 3 or 4 years.

Hopefully its better than the 2600 tempest I sold to curt like 12 years ago.. Is that a show exclusive or will they sell it on their webstie? I will buy it if they make it available..

I am tempeted to go to sell off my system x and 2600 rc stella, but I have a commitment on saturday...

it is not an exclusive from what i understand. one of the guys on the atariage boards, dutchman2000, worked as a 'go between' with the original programmer, kiethen hayunga, and kiethen finished the game. here's a link to some pics of the game. (the first item on the page, looks pretty good.)

I'm usually the one who coordinates the arcade section for CGE. Unfortunate I be able to help out this year. I'm glad dogp is picking up the slack and helping them out. It's a lot of work. I don't have my dads trailer anymore so won't be able to haul any arcade games this time. I've been going to every CGE since '99 but rumor has it, this is the very last CGE. I hope it's not true. See you this weekend!!

I went to CGE 2000 back when I lived in the LA area. I had a great time and got to meet Walter Day. Are they still doing the show at the Plaza?

Not at the Plaza anymore (hasn't been for quite a few years)... it's at the Tropicana this year.

I'll definitely try out the 5200 Tempest... assuming they have controllers that aren't broken :D .

Hey All,

Stop by the GameGavel/RetroGamingRoundup table and say, "Hey". Love to meet more of you.

I'll definitely drop by and say hey!

Yeah, I'm sure it'll be job in itself... but well worth it! I've been helping mostly with repair the last couple shows, but it sounds like it's gonna be more than just repair this year. See you there!

And I really hope this isn't the last year... they've really got a good thing going, and even though it seems like the shows are getting less frequent, and maybe the coordinators are getting overwhelmed, I don't know that any other show could come along and take its place, especially with the connections it has with the video game "alumni". But yeah, I've been to the last 5 or so shows, and it never disappoints. It's really hard to compare with other shows... while CAX is awesome in its own ways (like a MASSIVE arcade), CGE seems more personal and social. Between all the vendors, people trading, couch by the TV playing classics, the auction, speeches, alumni, party, etc... it's really an experience.

Being local, I'll also be at CGE this year. Look forward to catching up with the KLOV'ers I already know and meeting some that I don't.
