We all know there is a fair amount of the classics out there yet on location pulling in some quarters; but most of these are probably out there because of the second (or third) coming of the popularity of these classics. Its somewhat common to see a Ms. Pac or a Galaga in an arcade with all the new games. Here's my question: is there anyone out there that knows of a classic game in an arcade, bar, or 7 eleven that has been there since the 70's or 80's? I know the odds aren't really good, but it sure would be cool to find a game that has been on location in the SAME spot for all these years. If anyone knows of one near where you live please take a pic and post up a story.

I'm trying to think of a local business (that is still in business) that has been in the same location since the 70's and 80's...I'm coming up blank. :D

I don't have a pic but there are a paperboy and a karate champ at a spaghetti factory restaurant near me that have been on location for many years. The owner of the restaurant owns the machines and despite many offers he will not sell. Honestly by all accounts the games still make a good deal of money and are always being played so really no reason to sell them from the owners perspective.

Nada. Not in my area....they're all long gone my friend...went bye bye in the early 90's. Very sad.

I went to a bowling alley recently for a tournament and there was a centipede and super pacman in a corner. I talked with the owner and he said it's the second centipede that's been there since the mid 80's. He said he has a storage shed with the dead games from the years it's been open. I need to get back that way and see if I can get some pics and maybe some of those "dead" games.

Another bowling alley still has a star wars that I remember playing back in the mid 80s. The last time I was there it wasn't on, but it was still in the same place.

They're all long gone from my area, too. I just figured in this vast country there just has to be some in their original location. There's so many bars, laundromats, bowling alleys, etc. My Gorf that I bought in 1998 had just been pulled from location, and I thought that was pretty exceptional. Usually the few games that survived the 80's and even early 90's were Ms. Pacs and Galaga, maybe a Centipede every now and then.

That's really cool. See I knew we'd get some good responses. If at all possible go down there and get us some pics soon! You might "score" with those dead games man.

When I get a free minute I'll make my way back there. It's nice living in a small town, some things stay the same for far to long.

I have noticed that most the little local bars that have survived have all gone the megatouch route. It's easier to give up 2 feet of bar space and have 50+ games than give up the space a cab or pinball machine require. Back in the 80's though I can't remember any bar, restaurant, bowling alley, ect that didn't have a game somewhere.

tons of beach arcades up here. They all have classics that have been in them from day one. Only the ones that don't make money come off the floor.

Here are some vids from Weirs beach down the street from funspot. The arcade is "The Peir" and "Half Moon"

My family and I went to the Half Moon when we were there a few weeks ago, but the Pier was closed that day. The Sega "Combat" game in Half Moon was really fun to play!

I have a couple of examples for ya. I don't live there anymore, but I grew up In La Grange Il, which is a western suburb of Chicago. I go back one in a while for visits and I have found two places that still have machines that have been sitting in the same location since they were new.
The first place is called Ledo's Pizza; as of late last year they have an original Ms. Pac cocktail. They have had many cocktails that I would play back in the day and it was great to see one still remains. Funny thing is they do have a couple of new games around it and one is a Ms Pac/Galaga 20th cocktail, which just seems redundant.

The second place is a Hobby Shop in the Downtown La Grange area, I used to hang out there as a kid when they had a Space Duel, a Jack the Giant Killer and a Tempest. I was really surprised when I stuck my head in a few years ago and the machines were still there. They were in a different place, as the store had down sized, and were off (who knows if they still even work), but it was quite a trip to still see them standing.

That's a great story man. I bet it was quite a shock to see those games in Hobby Shop, working or not. I know there's more out there....

There's a bar/restaurant near my house called the VIP that's been through a few different owners that has a Pacman cocktail that's been there since I was a kid. It still works, but the screen is all warped and looks like it had about 1000 drunks spill their drinks on it.

I dont have pics yet but you are gonna love this one.

I know of a Galaga that's been at a burger joint since the first time I ever went to it in 1987. Who knows how long it was there before I saw it. It looks the part too. Rotting and corroding. To top it off, IT'S OUT SIDE!! Barely under a patio/awning.

I promise to get pics soon.

They also have the same Street Fighter since 1992.

Awesome Hec, we're all looking forward to that one...

I remember games specifically because of where they were located when I was growing up.

The Acme had an Asteroids and an Alpine Ski, weird combo, but the Asteroids was always crowded so while my mom shopped I had to learn how to play Alpine Ski fairly well to occupy my time.

The Pathmark had a Pac-Man.

The local pizza place had a Hunchback...lol.

The laundromat had a Stargate.

I remember when the Aladdin's Castle converted their Defender to a Mystic Marathon and placed it in front where they used to put the newest games to attract folks walking by. No one really played it that often except me, now playing it in MAME I'm like "why did I play this again?"

Getting back on topic none of these are around anymore....if I want to re-live the cabs of my youth I just go over to Richie Knucklez :)
