Class of 1981 upgrade to 25th Anniversary or Arcade Party?

Do any of you know if you can simply swap the roms on a Ms. Pac-man/Galaga/hidden Pac-man "Class of 1981" to make it into a "Pac-man 25th Anniversary" or better yet "Pac-man Arcade Party"?

From what I have seen it looks like the exact same board with different ROM revisions.

Follow up question would be do any of you have the appropriate roms? :0)

update... need ROM U13 Revision 2.00

According to BMI's repair place "Speedy's One Stop" the current "Pac-man Arcade Party" is a totally different board then "Class of 81" and "25th Anniversary".

However to upgrade from "Class of 81" to "25th Anniversary" (no more hidden Pac-man!) it's just a single ROM swap - swap U13 from revision 1.02 to revision 2.00

So who has a 25th Anniversary board and can burn me the U13 ROM? :0)

lol, what this man says.

I never inspected that little board in any detail, I don't even know what kind of rom it takes.

pictures of Class of 81, 25th Anniv & Pacman Party boards...

See attached. "Class of 81" & "25th Anniversary" are the same board with U13 upgraded from 1.02 to 2.00. The "Pac-man Arcade Party" board is totally different.

So I just need ROM U13 Revision 2.00 to upgrade a Class of 81 to the 25th Anniversary...

Anyone? :0)

can it be done?

So "Speedy's One Stop" got back to me again and said "Class of 81" can't be upgraded to the "25th Anniversary". It is not just the U13 ROM that changed but also the surface mounted U11 & U17's that are programmed differently.

I don't buy it. The only difference between the 2 games is that Pacman is not a "hidden" option on the "25th Anniversary" board.

I am wondering if Speedy's didn't want to bother making the ROM for me? What do you guys think? Just a simple ROM swap or not? The chips they referred to are CY37256P160-83AI

Just wrote Namco directly - will keep everyone posted. In the mean time if anyone can burn me the U13 version 2.00 for Pacman 25th Anni...

Spoke directly with NAMCO

The folks at NAMCO were really nice & helpful. Bottom line you can't upgrade "Class of 81" to "25th Anniversary" as in fact although the boards are the same it is not just a ROM swap. Two of the surface mounted chips are programmable and would need to be replaced.

oh well...

have them send you the programed chips and the rom, if you really want to upgrade.

Does anyone know how gameplay on the anniversary pcbs compares to the original boards in 1980-1981?

I believe they're the same besides the monitor size being larger, but that's a whole-cabinet sort of thing. :) Obviously the coin-up menu / screen is a bit different and such.
