CL warehouse clearout in Gary Indiana

Yeah, he may sound like an nice guy, but just another overpriced op. I just spoke to him less than 5 minutes ago. I asked about Galaga, he has 3 in supposedly good condition- $750,$850 and $1100...

For an "overpriced op", those prices are actually kinda tame. Around here, an overpriced op would be asking $1500.

Guys,

I can give you the scoop on this deal. I hope you're not too upset about it, but I was the first one there first thing yesterday morning. I agree with the earlier posters that you've got to move quick on these things...I've missed way too many by waiting.

...but I left LOTS of stuff behind that is decent. I've been buying too much lately and am starting to feel a bit crazy, so I just bought the stuff I really needed - stuff I didn't already have in the collection.

Anyway, I can tell you pretty confidently that he won't sell anything for under $150 per game...regardless of condition or title, that seems to be his minimum. If any of you get anything cheaper, let me know because I'm curious if what he told me was true. And I will respect you as a better negotiator than I.

Second, the guy on the phone managing this deal is not the owner. He (Mike) is a third party brought in by the owner to act as a go-between for some reason that I'm unsure of. So he'll take your offers and then bring them before the owner and back and forth and so on. Mike is a great guy with deep roots in the industry, who seemed to be very honest and knowledgeable...easy to work with. Don't be afraid to offer him less. If he quotes you $800 on a Galaga, offer him 3 or 4 and you might be surprised. He has like 8 or 10 of them to sell and they look pretty nice (in the loft).

Also, I can tell you that the games look much better buried in the loft (where they are now) than they do when they get down in the full light of day. I bought about a dozen and was very excited until I saw them in daylight. Cabinets marred up, some CPs missing, back doors missing, some poop and water damage. At least half to 2/3 are like this, about 1/3 are pretty darn nice, though. I paid more than most of them were worth, frankly.

Here are some of the nicer titles left from my memory - Super Cobra dedicated, very nice. Several decent Out Runs (non-turbo). Asteroids Deluxe, Several nice yellow Pacs, Ms. Pacs, and 8-10 Galagas...all pretty nice looking. The commando and Guerilla War dedicateds looked very nice. The Sol Divide and the Tekken are in Playchoice / Punchout cabs. The Toobin looked real nice. The Swords of Fury looked bad - basket case. Don't get excited about the Killer Instinct - It's really a KI2 in a Zaxxon cabinet that doesn't work.

Anyway, those are my notes...I hope they help someone. Several of the pieces I picked up are going in the museum once I restore them.

Thanks John I was mainly interested in the KI, thanks for saving me the time.

Thanks for the 411, John! Much appreciated, as I was considering running over there.

Were all the Sega Out Run machines the stand-up variety or did he have any sit-downs? And did the control panel and monitor bezel look to be in pretty good shape on them (those are the hardest pieces to find in good shape).

Thanks,
Greg

I didn't look real close. All I can say is that they looked pretty good. Better than you would see at a game auction. Most of this stuff looked like it had been up there a long time.

THANK YOU ALSO, I hate going to gary.He told me 850, thank god I didnt waste my time

I am 99.x% sure about what I said on the KI. You might ask him just to make sure. Just ask him if it's a dedicated KI 1 or if it's a KI2 in a kit cabinet. If it's the KI2, don't waste your time. I offered him $150 just to take the board, but he wouldn't do it. If it's a KI 1, then they must have pulled in something new since I was there.
