CL pinball (Road Race).. is it good though??

I just noticed a pinball on a local CL listing. I really know nothing about pins beyond playing them when I was kid.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/vgm/1973561102.html

this seems like an older one, but again... I know nothing.

From what little can be seen and read about, does this seem like a good thing to try to buy or should I avoid this?

Thanks for any tips.

edit... found this: http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?gid=1971

seems interesting... but I suspect it would needs lots of work to keep it running???? Don't know though.

I have no clue, lol... I just noticed it. Haven't even contacted the person or anything. Was trying to figure out if I even wanted to try.

Never owned a pin before and this wouldn't be my first choice, but paying around $250 is a lot easier to do on a pin vs $2000. ;)

TBH, if someone else "really" wanted it then they're a step ahead of me since I have never played it before so I have no "historic" reason to even care about the pin.

Wise man once said: Act before you think! Then that way you will all ready have the game while the others are still thinking...Rule to arcade collecting!:)

lol... I know. Owning an EM just seems like a lot of work. If I wasn't trying to sell my house and had a game room already to go then I'd jump. I just can't do it and then force it into the garage.

If I was being told "those are worth $800 easy" or something, then I'd jump, lol... but from what I can see those "Road Race" pins seem to go for around a few hundred or so.

yep spoken from a True collector there. Act fast and think later.

2000 is still cheap for pins . Pin Prices can be alot pricer then vids. 8grand, too 200

I'm sure it will find a better home... well... I HOPE it finds a better home. Would hate for some goof to buy it and let his 7yo ruin it or something.

It would be neat to own, but beyond that factor I have no real reason to want it. It's almost at an impuse price though, lol.

Classic wedgehead Gottlieb EM single-player. A lot of collectors of EMs like the wedgeheads. Self-cleaning switches helps keep it running if it's played often. Once these are gone through completely, they're some of the most reliable EM pins ever. I don't like them that old, but a lot of people do...

.... like me. I love these things. That would be an excellent pin to start with if you wanted to learn to work on EM's, it doesn't get much simpler than a 1 player Gottlieb Wedgehead. If you're the faster faster bigger bigger type though, you wont' like it because the game is more about getting points than watching the ball fly around ramps.

I would buy it if it were local to me, but I'd watch some youtube videos of EM's first to see if you're into that kind of thing.

I was unaware the purpose of the ramps was to just watch them... Funny I always try to hit them to score points...

Boston pinball's ebay page has average price at $270, but only 4 sales in the last few years. Low price was $99 and the high price was $400. So $250 probably isn't too bad of a deal, especially if it is 100% working with a decent playfield and backglass. If you go to get it, take the $250 with you, but offer him $200 and see if he goes for it.
