Hey all, I was just wondering exactly how common it is to find cabinets that have cig burns on them. Both my Frogger and Swimmer have them, on the marquee and bezel respectively. I have seen lots of pictures of games with burns on the control panel as well.

So how often do you run across games that have these burns on them? My guess would be that they are pretty common.

On older machines it more likely. Now-a-days smoking isn't allowed in arcades and around machines and it's more enforced then back in the day.

I would say about 90% of the games I have bought had some form of Cig burn on it somewhere. If it's not too bad or deep and just slightly discolored and stained, Magic eraser takes it out. I have redone many a Nintendo plexi CPO and you usually can't tell it ever had a burn.

Okay, that's good to know that light burns can be removed. I assume that there is nothing that can be done to burns on plexiglass, though, right?

back in the day the gameroom was smoky as hell, nobody complained about 2nd hand smoke. they walked around with it burning, then when they slid up to the game they layed the lit cigarette on the game while they played. most games had multiple burns

Actually to tell you the truth I have actually had luck repairing mild burns on plexiglass.
it involves alot of wet sanding but it can be done. I'm not sure if I have any before and after pics but I've done it several times with favorable results. It really just depends on how deep the burn is.

Yeah I'll agree, about 90% of my games have at least a burn or 2. My Seawolf has one on top of the viewfinder where you look thru(yeah that's smart to put your cigarette 1/4 inch from your eye); and there is a full length burn on top of the cabinet(someone lit up and forgot it there). Very common

guess i have been lucky only a few of my games have arived with burns
of corse my pp shroud is toasty
and a few of the neo geo 's i have pulled in have had them on the cp

burns

at first the games that did have it on i thought about repairing and then thought it just adds to the nostalgia , sort of the games history!
