Chuck's Arcade - a return of classic CEC arcade?

The name, logo, and some of the decor have a retro/Chuck vibe, but the games themselves are cutting-edge and totally modern—so think new-school fun, not a nostalgia fest.

And, end of interest.

Wish them well and everything, but not for me.

I'm guessing that those of us who remember when CEC was more of a straightforward arcade and pizza entertainment place (prior to ~1985) are probably not the target audience for this.

Interesting they mention having been called Fun Spot arcade...I think there's already one of those :ROFLMAO:

"It's totally not a nostalgia fest. Not at all. Except that we're using the the old name and branding to trick GenX customers into coming here by making them feel nostalgic when they hear the old name and see the old branding. We could have totally come up with a brand new name and branding, but then we couldn't trick people into playing these lousy new games because the nostalgia factor - which we absolutely aren't capitalizing on at all, I cannot emphasize that enough - would be gone."

I remember doing an overnight "lock in" at a ShowBiz Pizza (I think) in Montgomery, AL when I was twelve-ish. Big bucket of tokens in the middle of the room, replenished as necessary, we could play all night. Was awesome, of course...

We got a new Dave and Buster's in the past year. It had all new, big, colorful games, the touch screen glass room game, etc. More game and less redemption IMO. The "classic" stuff were new Daytonas, wall sized pacman, galaga, space invaders or Missile Command, pac-man themed air hockey and modern pac themed games, etc.

I knew I wouldn't really be into the games and knew they'd have no true classics, but it was nothing like CEC (thankfully) which around here is still really just a place for kid birthday parties without wrecking your own house.

How many of you have been to a Pins Mechanical (or whatever the non midwest version is)? Dozens of mostly new pinball machines, bocce, trashcan beer pong, duckpin bowling, etc. Some are split with 16-bit and have dozens of true classics on free play. I was at the Easton Columbus one a few weeks ago and there were NO panel displays and I only saw ONE videogame down. Impressive!!!

Has anyone been to one?

From the article it looks like there's only one, at the Mall of Georgia (although there are some similar "FunSpot Arcades" in other places). Pretty fair hike from where I live, and if they're advertising that they don't have any classics, I'm not motivated to make the drive.

Well Mall of Georgia is reasonably busy so I guess it makes sense to put in an arcade there. Doesn't really sound like anything outside of an arcade with some CEC branding. If I had to guess it'll be at least 75% prize machines like how tons of Japanese arcades are set up now.

Do we have a KLOV/VAPS member in the area?

We need facts! Someone in the area needs to visit, take pictures, and give us a review!
