Chuck E. Cheese launches arcade for adults

St. Pete's. Basically just like any other modern arcade in a mall.

As mentioned the classics are fake cabs that look somewhat like the originals with LCDs.
Surely with such a large brand name they would have invested in actual cabinets... or at least better looking repros. The SF2 looks especially out of place.

I think on July 15 that chucky cheese is going to open at the brea mall in California. I wonder if I can round up the techs to go and take a look see..

Yeah big time. 350 million for this? LOL.

I'd love to know who they outsourced the cabinet making to if it was someone in the biz or just some carpentry company.

What if they technically had a real board in each cab but used the emulator instead?

If they would have stored all their old games instead of requiring them to be destroyed they could have had something special today. I'm sure the economics of that would have never made sense though.

Not sure how that would make any difference.

Like @Patrick Verner said, the parent companies that license these games out just want a piece of the pie in exchange for the rights to their Intellectual Property. They probably couldn't care less what board is inside.

Centipede is still Centipede in the eyes of lawyers. Emulation or not.

Of course they use cards... typical, like why not just make them use tokens!! They are far less costly than card readers, if a card reader breaks, that's another $70-$100 part you have to but instead of just simply fixing a coin mech, that and you are ruining an original 80s machine of its coin mech

The target audience for these appears to be kids who went to Chuck E. Cheese in the 90's when it was long past its golden age or who never went to one before and are nostalgic for it.

It's certainly not meant for us who dislike the LCD and emulation cabs. Dave and Busters (the one time I went there) seems to have the new games cornered. The barcade and retrocedes seem to have the other end of the spectrum cornered.

I don't see this being viable long-term. This seems like a half-assed attempt.

I hate lcds for sure, so I'm already not a fan of that, but I'm also not a fan of card payment

I wish them luck. While thier kind of arcade experience isnt what I would like personally. My hats off to the dreamers who attempt to create an arcade in any form. Much like muesum of pinball. Lightning in a bottle. It was amazing while it lasted but as a stand alone business it just didn't make sense..
