Chuck E Cheese Going Bye Bye ?

I have never been to a Chuck E Cheese personally. So oddly yes, sure it might be like walking through a minefield, but once they clear all the mines its just a regular field ya know. Even it ends up badly at least you got that experience.

Someone think of a better analogy, I'm running out of ideas here

They are a bad influence on kids & parents. Bunch of gambling garbage & horrible food.

This is not the first time they went bankrupt? Though, I think filing for bankruptcy is a different thing.

Bulldoze that minefield! :D

They were a lot cooler in the 90s, when they still had fun stuff to do... the new atmosphere is sterile, seizure inducing & unfun. Like a Juvenile Prison.

Edit: I believe I'm still confused what the minefield is in the analogy. :-|

My kids are well past the age demographic for CEC, so I don't care if they go under. :)

They don't really have much in the way of interesting games for adults anyway, at least they didn't the last time I was there.

And I keep reading about fights that break out there that remind me of the Jerry Springer show.

I miss this Chuck E Cheese...

:(

And yeah, it's recorded with one of those video things...

:D

I worked there back in the 90's as a tech. Didn't last long -
they kept sticking me at that "kid check" thing. I didn't take
the job to stamp kids hands.

Funniest story I have there is the kid who crapped his pants
and slid down the yellow slide. Let's just say mom and day should
have gotten more fiber into junior's diet !

The manager acted quick, he shut down the soft play and got the
employees cleaning it. The funnier part was the irate mothers
yelling at the manager like it was his fault.

We probably take the kids to the CEC near us once per year. So they'd miss it, but we definitely have other options, so it wouldn't be too big of a loss.

Yeah I don't know either

I won't miss it at all. Took my son and my wife's brother and sister there years ago. I ended up getting the worst case of flu I ever got. Was out for almost 2 weeks.

I wonder in the future if someone is going to create a redemption arcade bar.
Those redemption arcade machines might be Fun for the drunk adults that who grew up with that mouse.

Maybe it is time to buy some signs and other iconic stuff from them.

Past the age of of going there for my kids friends parties (it was always the parent that didn't plan well and slapped the party together last minute), but I still don't want to see it go under. There are barely any family arcades left, and I like that it's around.

Last time I was there, I played a Pirates Of The Caribbean pin through most of the party. My kid was old enough to just want to spend the time running around with friends, and nobody else there wanted to play a pinball machine. Didn't have to try and small-talk with a bunch of people I barely knew, so honestly playing pinball for an hour was way better than any other kid party I ever went to.

I own creator Gene Landrum's "inaugural token" he was given at the 1977 Chuck E. Cheese inaugural gathering/award ceremony... apparently the first token ever. Bought it from his wife's eBay and he was even nice enough to sign it for me, and sent along a copy of a magazine he was featured in as a bonus. Nice guy.

I grew up as a kid in Chuck E. Cheeses and will have fond memories of it. Mine is still in operation, but I haven't been since I was a little kid. I'm pretty sure even if I wanted to check out how things have changed, I'm pretty sure they don't let you in unless you have a kid for safety reasons. Not that I really care to find out... I'd just do Dave & Busters, but I don't even step foot in those places. It was always well-managed and calm. It's crazy to hear how bad the ones in the ghetto neighborhoods get hammered with fights and 911 calls (like a daily occurrence). Ours was never like that... not even close. Sounds like they need to pick their neighborhoods a little better.

Anyways, here's a picture of my slice of CEC history:

I mean I guess to be fair, it is still better than having kids on computers/phones all day.

One vice for another.

I liked it better when it was Showbiz Pizza...

Never experienced Showbiz, but from all the records about it, it appears it was superior in most ways to CEC.

Chuck E. Cheese stores have a reputation for literally destroying arcade games, redemption games, and pinball machines when they are "done" with them.

Hopefully they file chapter 7 liquidation and the liquidator accepts just about any offer on the machines. May be a good chance to buy a cheap undestroyed machine. Everyone keep their eyes on the dumpster at the local Chuck E. cheese store.

Do they even have anything other than redemption games these days? It's been probably 8-10 years since I was last in the local one and there were no pinball games and no arcade games.
