So I have a coin door I would LOVE to restore 100% but the coin door
flap and the coin return button are beat. I hit them with some chrome
paint but its just not the same as real chrome.

Anyone know a method (cheaply) to chrome just a couple tiny parts?
I dont want to get charged an arm and a leg by a professional.

a DIY method?

search rec.games.pinball for Mike Chestnut. He does work for the pinball community. I had a Stern coin door flap and some random Bally playfield parts replated. The results were amazing and the price very reasonable.

That's what I get for not hitting "submit" after typing an answer. Others beat me to it.

A bit pricey for one or two parts. But if you do a number of parts, a lot cheaper than sending them off to a chrome shop.

There's also Alsa's Killer Cans, but they get very mixed reviews, and are almost as expensive as real chrome.

Here's the before and after on the Stern coin door. Only the return flap was replated. Classic Playfield Reproductions ran the inserts, but they appear to be out. I think they ran the 25c and freeplay (custom) ones.

Thanks for the tips Joey.. So I found a site "Bay area amusments"
that has the quarter and freeplay inserts in stock. picked those up.

Any idea where I can get the nice white plastic inserts? for the coin chute? Or a way to make the ones I have white again?

I emailed Mike Chestnut for the chrome plating.

I asked around when I was restoring that door. Seems that the white inserts haven't been repro'd and the Stern door parts are hard to find in nicer than average condition. I soaked the white pieces in Oxy Clean, but actually found a nicer round button and polished it with Novus 2. Sounds like Bay Area Amusements probably bought some of CPR's stock, glad you found them.
