New here. New game owner as well. AKA ignorant on it all basically, so please be patient.
I made a comment a few years ago that I would love to own a Choplifter game - a favorite from my teen years. Well my wife made a mental note of this and this year she bought one from a local restaurant for me for Christmas. I had played this exact game a few times throughout the years and it worked well and looked in great shape. She obtained the game at a great price and verified it was working. Unfortunately, in effort to maintain the Christmas surprise she had my two daughters go pick up the game in a Honda Element (thus it was transported laying down) and then moved into a back bedroom that I wasn't allowed to go into. Long story short - the game is a bit bigger and heavier than these two were most likely able to "handle with care." While the game is physically still in great condition, it does now have a display issue that I have not been able to solve. The screen rolls like a hold issue - however no matter how much I play with the hold controls - I am unable to get the screen to come in. In speaking with a friend of a friend who has experience in repairing these games - he believes it is a monitor synch issue. However he is not able to come repair the game for me.
I have reached out to the contact that handled the repairs for the game over the years for the restaurant - however he has gone MIA on me. I then reached out to a local arcade to find out who maintains their games - but they do it in-house and did not "offer" to look at mine but gave me a name of another local person. I reached out to him and he is mainly into pinball games and when I showed him pictures of mine - he says mine appears to be a more rare cabinet and was uncomfortable working on it.
So I am at a point now I don't know what to do. My preference would be to find a local fellow enthusiast that I can pay to come to me and help me learn what I have and repair the current issue and suggest any other maintenance steps I should take.
Second most comfortable measure would be a localish place that I can take the game into for repair - but I really hesitant to move this 35year old game too much.
Finally - and the step that I am most uncomfortable with but willing to try if that is what it takes is repairing myself (or more likely - removing the questionable boards and sending off for repair).
So that is why I am here - for direction on what to do next. Hopefully someone reading this will say "Oh you need to talk to Jimmy - he lives near you and would love to help!" (Concord NC) If not - then the next steps I need to take to get the game repaired.
Below is a link to a shared album of pictures of the game. If any specific pictures that I did not include would be helpful - please let me know and I can take it and add that.
Thanks for any help/direction in advance!
