I recently purchased a Choplifter cabinet from a private seller locally here in NJ. From what I know Choplifter was released for the arcade in 1985. However, as I've looked it over and started the restoration process a few things seem out of place.

- The marquee looks authentic however there is no blue SEGA logo.
- The design of the cabinet is unlike any I've seen online.
- There is a stamp on the wood inside the control panel which reads " TESTED OCT 18 1982 INSPECTED"

Any ideas?

Let's see a pic? It might be that your marquee was chopped down to fit the cab, and since Choplifter came out in 1985, it almost certainly isn't in the Sega cab on KLOV....

Hey guys,
Thanks so much for the quick replies. I first assumed that someone must have swapped cabinets and thus the differences. The missing logo on the marquee sparked my interest and the control panel design elements really look like they belong. After a close look the marquee does not appear to me to be a new addition i.e. photoshopped reporoduction. Also the surface of the control panel looks very much like the others I've seen online and even has the words Strafing or Bombing and Direction Change. Being the curious person I am I was trying to figure this story out and figured I ask the experts!

Damn, looks like I came to the right place! Thanks so much. Think you guys nailed it. I loved Joust so this just makes the whole thing that much cooler. I appreciate the time. Any ideas on the marquee? Think it was just a reprint and the left off the SEGA logo?

Yes, there were dedicated Choplifters, but as someone else pointed out, that is a Williams Joust cabinet. That CPO is normal for a conversion Choplifter. FYI, the dedicated cabinet is different and the CPO was unique (I have the dedicated cabinet if you have any questions about it). Sadly, it was converted before I got it. :(

The dedicated Choplifter cabinet is the one with the large SEGA logo on it's side.
This same cab style was also used for the dedicated Wonderboy.

But most Choplifters were conversions. Mine is a converted Astron Belt.

Kyle
I will disagree with that being the dedicated Choplifter. That was a standard SEGA converta-cabinet and the instruction sticker above the CP is a dead give-away, since
that was included with the conversion kit only. The instructions were part of the CPO on a dedicated Choplifter.
