Just curious if anyone uses ChipQuik for SMT re-working. I've used it on and off for quite some time and it works well, but it is relatively expensive (thankfully I don't do much SMT re-working).

It basically seems to be "Field's Metal", so I'm now wondering if Field's Metal might work out cheaper to use ......... has anyone tried that instead, or maybe even made their own?

I've used it and it works great. I needed to replace the TX chip on an Xbox and so I got some Chipquik. I practiced on an old motherboard first and once I felt confident about using it, Removed the chip from the Xbox in no time at all. Soldering it back on wasn't as much fun, but it turned out OK.
