Went to expo last night. Unfortunately the QQuest was inoperable - looked interesting. Did not get home until 5am tired but happy. Picked up some parts for my NGG, some pinball leg protectors, a new lens for my F14 and some led bulbs to try in my pins before I decide if I will go that route. They sure have a selection of colors and styles including different whites (bright or warm to look more like an incandescent bulb), intensities, frost or clear, and diffusions. Now they are starting to make kits for each pin as well. I think my NGG is the first candidate for a full conversion. It's a newer pin and the LED colors would work. Also looked at EL lighting for the ramps and I think I will add that as well.
There were plenty of old and new pins. Not everything was there (that would be impossible) but it is great in that you get to play a variety of pins and see what kinds you like. I was disappointed in that the Orbitor was absent this time. But I again confirmed that I am a Williams fan no doubt about that.
Lots of vendors and I got chat with Steve Ritchie for awhile - I met him at CAX earlier this year. He's my favorite designer and very personable and approachable as well. We were laughing as I told him that I had two of the pins he designed and a few more I wanted. He said "why stop there - collect all 23".
This is my third expo and I've never been disappointed. It's also a lot more fun if you go with a few friends both collectors and non-collectors. I always like to see non-collectors appreciate the games and get into them. My son brought a friend and it was great to see his eyes light up to see that many games in one place. He even found a favorite IJ that he kept going back to. He will be back next year - another convert.
Just about everyone was courteous and polite about playing a game and moving on so others could enjoy if they saw someone waiting. There were a only a few a**wipes that would load up a game for 4 players and play solo. No one was shy about pointing out their transgression. With so many games to play you never had to wait very long at all. It also gives you a chance to see someone else play and pick up some game strategy before you get your turn.
Lots of pins for sale - most were very reasonable. Unfortunately some were there that I was looking for but not for sale but I got to play them and increase my desire to own them.
If you ever get a chance to make this show - do it. You won't be disappointed. The hotel and its location are great and parking was no hassle at all.
