I just received this cherry master 96 machine and the previous owner had removed the power supply as he thought it was bad. I replaced it with a new power supply and still get a screen full of numbers and symbols. No sound, no playing blind.

Any suggestions on what to test first on the board?

Start with:

1) Test voltages at the board. Should be close to +5V on a TTL chip.

2) With a logic probe, go to the CPU, test for Clock and activity on Address/Data Lines.

Do you have the schematics for it?

All I have is what is posted above. I checked the board for any swollen capacitors, burnt spots, etc...nothing. No battery on the board. Everything is connected, terminals are clean.
There is no LED or anything visible to show the board is working. No sound or change when dollars are placed into the working bill handler. the ticket dispensor works when the advance button is pushed on it. I have a static image on the screen which I would attach a photo of if it were possible to do so....

There "should be" a battery soldered to the pcb by the small toggle "reset switch".

YOU NEED THAT.

Next, if scrambled pic still exsist......Change the Z-80 IC located on the piggy back pcb which is mounted by the top right corner of the main pcb. The Z-80 will be a 40-pin "long shaped" IC. May or may not be in a socket. Soldering may be required.

DO THAT.

Let us know.

i gave up and replaced the board with a cheap used one and everything works now. It just wasn't worth much to spend a lot of time on it after I tried the basics. Thanks to everyone for their assistance.
