I have an issue that happens when I start the game. It happens about 60% of the time. I get some dotes on the dot matrix display and an huming sound. If i depress the test switch as I turn the game on most of the time it will work just fine. I have already tried to reseat the connectors in the back box with not change.

I have repaired arcades but this is my first pinball that I have every looked at. thanks for any ideas you may have.

Have you looked at the LEDs on the CPU board when this happens? If so, what are they doing? (Which ones turn on/off and when.)

when it is humming and the leds are stuck the game does not "boot" any further. Meaning the game is not playable. The only way it will boot to a point where it is playable is when you hold down the test switch and turn the game on. and that works about 80% of the time.

As far as leds, I have never looked. There are several boards in the back glass, is it the power board? cpu? all? which one will have the light your talking about?

This is a quick video of the issue. it goes black half way in but the important part is in the begining:

Also, I noticed that there where not 5+ lights when it does not boot up. i.e. the video symtom. When I start in test mod, there is a 5+, but as you can hear in the video it wook a couple of tries to get it to run in test mode.

Does that mean its the power supply? if so, what in the power supply would cause this condition?

I see the NC1 power molex connector on the power supply is completly burnt inside, so I am going to get a new connector and hope that is the issue. The documents that folks sent me seem to talk about that being a normal issue that needs to be repaired on data east power boards. hope that fixes it.

Ok bad news and good news:

The Good. I changed connector CN2 on the power board and two capacitors 100 uf 200v. The caps looked like they needed to be replaced as the paper was rolling back. The connector was all chard on one of the pins. So I can play the game no issues.

The bad. Now the Dot matrix display does not work. At first I thought it did not display anything, but then at some points in the game it appears to show a faint sel of lights on the botom left had side. it looks like the display on an mp3 player when playing music. I can see there are two connectors from the digital display, one goes to the power ( I tested the conninuity of heach wire and looked good), the other goes to a solid black hard ribon cable that goes to the CPU. The cable to the power board goes to CN5 and CN10. I reseated the two cabels on both end and no change. Before the changes, the dot matrix display would work fine, but don't beleive the two changes I made would have this effect, could be wrong.

As I said in a past I have never worked on pinballs before but plent of arcades. Just need a push in the right direction, Anyone have any ideas as to what to test and what the results should be so that I can fix this dot matrix display?
