Check out this "restore"

Looks to me like the cabinet is preserved pretty well, so if someone wanted to buy it off him, it'd still be in better shape than when the MAMEr found it. The cab is in better shape than when he found it, so it's saved for a future project. His tastelessness aside, I don't see the harm. I understand why it's inherently wrong, but the shit and hate he's getting from everyone? The guy took precautions to make sure everything is reversible. People are just fucking cocks I guess.

I'd like to see one of those assholes put their money where there mouth is and make him a fair offer.

I'm not sure where I stand on this. I like the look of the control panel, and the fact that the cab hasn't been modified. However, when I look at the video, and I see all the consoles and nonsense crap on there, it's a turn off. I seriously doubt most of that can actually be played properly. It gets a little ridiculous. really? 22,000 games?

I guess if you had a custom interface, and maybe a few games from the 70's on there, it would be tasteful enough.

Can you check your e-mail and update you facebook status too? For me, the beauty of these classic games is in their singular uniqueness. My upright Asteroids does one thing, it provides the one true experience of that game. If I only had room for one or two games, I'd still prefer to own, one or two classic games.

Let's say I had a 1957 Dual Ghia sitting in the garage:

These things don't grow on trees. This is one rare and desirable car. As such, it's also super difficult to find parts to finish one, and I'm not having any luck doing so.

But man, it's got a really cool body. Maybe I could go ahead and just put a Chevy small-block in there, or an electric motor? I've always wanted to drive a car with a Chevy small-block motor; I've also always wanted an electric car. And it'd look so cool `cause the shell is unique, rare, and conversation-worthy!

Or, maybe I should find another more common car to do that to, and sell this rare shell to another Ghia collector who either needs it to finish his project, or has more patience to look for parts than I do?

Yeah - I think I'll do that.

And there's my take.

im a 100% with ya. Ive "restored" several old cars, and sometimes original isnt the way to go. I did a 25th anniversary MGB with a ford windsor 351, and i currently have a 87 Monte SS with a supercharger 350 putting out just under 500HP. Anybody can have one with a stock 305 putting out 200 HP

I think he did a decent job with it. It doesn't looked hacked up, and he seem to make every effort not to permanently change the original cabinet. It is possible in the future he might come across the guts to a computer space and could easily convert it back.

I'm sort of in the same boat, I was given a empty Space duel cabinet that was dumpster bound and am converting it to run Mame. I also am taking steps to not modify or harm the cabinet in the hopes that one day I'll have the good fortune to run across the guts. While I slowly collect the bits and pieces, the cabinet is enjoyed and played on.
