I had someone drop off a dedicated Pit Fighter that they want me to turn into an X-men: Children of the Atom for them. They have all the pieces, and just basically want me to redo the control panel, and fix a few minor issues (like the marquee light).

So anyway, when they dropped it off, I saw the art below. Apparently they blew up some images they got online, got someone to print it for them, laminated it, then used small pieces of plexi and screwed it down all along the edges. They thought about gluing it but decided not to.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics...

I like it!

not sure what you were talking about with the laminate, but I once saw a Revolution X that had plexiglass installed over the sideart. WTF?

Upon closer inspection, the damn game was autographed by all the members of Aerosmith. Best guess was that maybe it had been in a hard rock cafe or something as a showpiece. So somebody had installed plexi over the sideart to protect the signatures!

Not sure what you were talking about with the laminate

They printed it on some type of paper, then had it laminated at Kinko's or something, then held onto the cab with small 1"x3" strips of clear plexi screwed into the cab all the way around the edges...

Dude, I kind of like the art. It's from the 90's series of X-men comics. Number #1.

A+ for the concept, C- for installation. I guess when it comes down to it, if it ain't adhesive vinyls, why bother?

I think it would have been totally badass if the guy printed up a kick plate with the other fold-out art from that issue.

It's funny. you know you're a nerd when they show up with this and you say, "Hey, Uncanny X-Men #1!"

Of course, they (being younger dudes) say, "Yeah, the original team" and I have to explain that Wolverine was not one of the ORIGINAL X-Men...

I like it. I'm sure it looks like ass up close, based on your description of how it was applied.

You know you're even a bigger nerd when you know it technically is not the "Uncanny" X-men of the 1990's team until Storm commanded the gold team.

...But yes, knowing Wolveriene, Storm, Collossus, etc were not the original team is pretty nerdy. NERDY AWESOME!

I'll take my camera and get you some better pics of how they did it....

Looking forward to that. Of course, for what Kinko's charges, you'd have to work there to be able to get that big of laminated printed paper for a decent price. The price they quoted me for a peice of 18" x 24" sideart for a mini machine was ridiculous.

Art is by Jim Lee. It's from 1991 when he worked with Marvel to create the second series of X-Men. He did the art for issues #1-11. Yes, I'm a comic book geek.

It's not that nerdy. I used to have X-Men #1-10. Bought them myself out of my allowance every month for a year when they came out. Until my mother sold my box of comics 10 for a buck to the kid down the street while I was at college. The Kid down the street used that box of comics to start a comic book store (I had a lot of Marvel #1s and other low numbers). He made out real well until the comic crash. <sigh> That coulda been me. :(
