I wanna go to town on my stack of pacman boards and I get the feeling after checking some of the roms in my eprom writer that I am gonna need some new eproms... where's the booty?

Not really a "cosmetic" topic, but...

I've bought some EPROMs from epromman.com. While they did not come in tubes, they did come packaged better than the linked blog showed. They were generally stacked and rubber banded. Yes, I had to straighten a few pins... but again nothing nearly as mangled as the linked blog showed. Yes, I had to clean off labels, and erase & verify functionality... but as discussed, that's what you get when you order dirt-cheap EPROMs. Out of like 40 or 50 EPROMs, I only had 1 or 2 bad IIRC.

I try to salvage as many EPROMs as possible from bad/broken/useless(thinking of you, Cherry Master...) boards. But when I need to buy some more, I'll probably take my chances and order again from epromman.com.

Go to ebay, I picked up 100 for like $35 a year ago. Usually under buisness and industrial, electrical test equip, electronic components. Search there and see what you come up with. Just be weary of sellers from china, thailand can get fake parts.

Just received an order less then an hour ago. I would have loved them to have been staked with elastic bands. Nope these were just put in to a seal-able bag. I can live with the bent legs. Just means I have to put time into unbending them. Its the fact that he messed up my order and send something else. My burner doesn't recognize it. Nor can I find any info much info on the internet about them. I've contacted him, and hope to hear back soon.

Edit: He contacted me, very quickly which is awesome. Very polite. I've been informed that they are what I ordered, just has a different production number. So now I just need to try burning one again, but with the proper settings.

Yeah, 2532s have 24 legs. These are 28. Probably some sort of 64 Kbit eprom, judging from the number. Make him replace them.

In my case the 2532's worked, the 2716's have had about a 50% failure rate to them.

To me it's worth it to pay the extra and get cleaned/tested chips that are shipped in tubes.

I have had fairly good luck with buying NOS chips from Antech Electronic(HK)Co.,Limited in Hong Kong. Not sure if they have what you are looking for, but you would have to ask. They also ship out pretty fast (usually takes 2 weeks for me to get stuff from them - they also offer DHL courier service as well).

I also have had fairly good luck using this service as well: http://www.seekic.com/ - most companies that come up in a search are China based - so at your own risk. ;)

I've made some purchases from epromman before. I'm happy with my results. My chips were stacked and rubber banded. A few bent legs, no big deal.

One large order of 2764's came as a substitution, and I couldn't program them. I contacted him and he agreed that the subs must have been a bad batch, and promptly sent me name brand 2764's.

When you order from him, you should specify that you want name brand roms, and you want them stacked and wrapped tightly, to avoid damage. Pay a few extra bucks to make sure this is done, and you'll be happy.
