I've never known anyone to have a basement here...lived here my whole life. I would move to the east coast just to have a gameroom basement. ;)

Most houses have all the heating, cooling, water heater, etc in the garage.

It is funny to picture basements in places like Florida. I guess you could have some manatees down there since the water level is 1-3 feet down. :)

I grew up in North Miami Beach... I had several friends who lived in houses with basements. Seriously. I don't suppose it's common, state-wide, but in our neighborhood apparently homes of a certain era had basements.

Had to build something all the snowbirds could feel comfortable in I suppose.

For the record... I've had more trouble with water in the basement since I've lived here.
