One side on my F355 had a loose paddle shifter that would flop back and forth making a lot of noise and just doesn't feel good when you play.
If you disassemble the unit, you will find the extra 'play' due to a worn bushing/grommet type object that once fit between the weights/mount to the aluminum chunk that slides down the shaft is worn away or through.
If you search through the manuals, there is not a part number for this item in any of the cross section diagrams. I thought maybe a O ring would do the trick, so I went to harbor fright across the street (gee im lucky =D) and picked up this:

Inside there is a pair of perfectly sized thick rubber ring pieces, not exactly an O ring but more like a plug with a hole in it. It fits perfectly around the post on the weight where it needs to go. It takes a little fidgeting to fit the mounting screws back since now it's much tighter but when its done, the loose play is gone and the paddle has a nice firm feeling to it now.
We'll see how long it lasts but for $1.50 you can't go wrong!
